Addiction counselor's DUI murder case begins
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Los Angeles County jury is expected to hear opening statements in the murder case against a drug and alcohol addiction counselor.
Sherri Lynn Wilkins is due in court Monday afternoon. Wilkins is accused of striking a man with her car on a Torrance street in 2012 and driving two miles with him on the hood of the car as he was dying.
Authorities allege she was driving drunk and hit Phillip Moreno so hard that he was knocked out of his shoes and lodged in her windshield.
She has pleaded not guilty to murder, driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. An email message left for her public defender was not immediately returned Monday.
