Icy roads cause dozens of wrecks around Reno Tahoe
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol and Reno police responded to dozens of accidents on icy roads in the area, including a half dozen in a 20-minute span during the morning commute that forced traffic to be rerouted around a stretch of I-580 near the Mount Rose Highway.
Another four inches of snow fell in the Sierra around Lake Tahoe and a combination of sleet and snow made for Reno's dangerous road conditions beginning Sunday evening when authorities responded to more than 30 accidents.
Another dozen were reported Monday morning, including a collision between a fire truck and an SUV on I-580 south of Reno.
No serious injuries were reported.
I-580 traffic was rerouted to U.S. Highway 395 from Mount Rose to the Bowers Mansion at the north end of Washoe Valley.
