Santa Barbara authorities probe gang rape beating
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) -- A University of California, Santa Barbara, student has been released from the hospital and is home with her family after she was beaten and gang raped.
Authorities Monday are seeking suspects and appealing to the public for clues in a case with no known witnesses or surveillance footage.
Santa Barbara County sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover says the 19-year-old woman was attacked by several men either late Saturday or early Sunday. The men were only described as "Asian males." The woman's name isn't being released.
The student wasn't sure where the attack happened, but it was either on campus or in the neighboring community of Isla Vista.
The woman was able to return to her residence and tell her roommate. An ambulance transported her to the hospital.
