Attorney sentenced for stealing from estate
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A disbarred California lawyer has been sentenced to five and one-third years in prison for stealing more than $1 million from an elderly Anchorage widow.
The Anchorage Daily News (http://bit.ly/1jbogYo) reports 61-year-old Philip Eric Myers of Santa Barbara was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Anchorage and ordered to pay nearly $1.1 million in restitution.
Myers pleaded guilty in September to mail fraud and wire fraud.
Prosecutors say Myers worked with a nurse hired by the woman and that they tricked the woman into signing documents giving them power over her estate, from which they funneled money from 2007 to 2009.
The nurse, 54-year-old Brian Ben-Israel, was sentenced in December to five and a half years in prison and ordered to pay more than $2 million in restitution.
