Couple to stand trial in death of adopted son
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A judge has ruled that a Chico doctor and his nurse wife should stand trial for murder and felony child endangerment in connection with the death of their 2-year-old adopted son.
The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1exRRbI ) that Butte County Superior Court Judge Barbara Roberts on Friday ordered that Dr. James Yhip and his wife Edelyn Yhip stand trial for the death of the boy.
The judge rejected defense arguments that the case should be dismissed because another judge ruled in the couple's favor in a separate case over whether the pair's surviving children should be returned to their care.
Benjamin Yhip died in 2012. Two medical experts concluded the boy likely died after being beaten or shaken.
The Yhip's attorneys say the couple will likely seek review of Roberts' decision.
