Philly fire escape collapses; 3 injured
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Authorities say three people were injured, one critically, when a fire escape landing collapsed and fell four stories in downtown Philadelphia.
Officials say the three were on the landing of the fire escape of a red-brick apartment building when it collapsed around midnight Saturday. The three people were taken to hospitals. Police dispatchers said one person was listed in critical condition and two were in stable condition.
A neighbor who lives in the building next door said many young people live in the building and the three were "partying" on the landing. She said she heard what sounded like "this incredible explosion" and then screams. She called 911.
Officials from the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections were at the scene investigating.
