Storm Damage Road Work Continues   Photo with this story

Sonora, CA-- The Tuolumne County Public Works Department will be doing road repairs on Italian Bar Road starting Monday.

The storm damage repairs will be from the road closure gate to Five Mile Creek Road and will tentatively be completed by Monday, April 18th. Operations will take place between 7:30 am 3:30 pm daily. During this time this portion of Italian Bar Road will be closed to all traffic.

Wards Ferry Road Repairs Begin 

Sonora, CA--  Storm damage repairs to portions of Wards Ferry Road will begin next week.

The work from Richard Ranch Road to Thiel Road will start Monday, April 11th and tentatively be completed by May 2nd.  During this time, this portion of Wards Ferry Road will be closed to all traffic

Tuolumne County Road Superintendent Barry Bynum said, "We had some significant undermining of the approach to the Deer Creek Bridge. After this last series of storms that came through we also suffered some rather significant slips on the downhill side and a number of areas through that entire corridor."

Bynum added that rafting companies are a revenue generator for the county and that they need access to the river bridge at the bottom of the canyon. He says the Public Works Department will try to get the corridor opened up as quickly as possible.

Regional Agency Faces Budget Shortfall 

Sonora, CA - The Central Sierra Economic Development District/Central Sierra Planning Council faces a budget shortfall.

The multi-county joint powers authority primarily oversees federal subsidized low income housing. It also deals with allocating funds from things such as Community Development Block grants. It is made up of elected officials and citizens from Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Angels Camp, Sonora, Amador County and Alpine County.

State and federal revenues have declined in recent years. Two of the agencies four staff members were laid off at a meeting held Wednesday morning. The remaining two members will receive a 15 percent pay cut for at least 90 days. Director Larry Busby has been tasked with finding an additional $3,000 a month in cuts that need to be implemented by May 1st.

The Supervisor on the Governing Board from Tuolumne County is Randy Hanvelt, who confirms that the Board will meet again on April 27th in Angels Camp. Other local members of the Board include Calaveras County Supervisor Darren Spellman, Angels Camp City Councilmember Elaine Morris and Sonora City Councilman Matt Hawkins.

 




Report Of Gun Shots In East Sonora  

Sonora, CA-- The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of gunshots fired throughout an empty home in East Sonora.

The incident happened at 10 pm last night and no one was injured.  Very little information has been released including the home address.

Sexual Assault Arrest 

Angels Camp, CA -- A man has been arrested in Angels Camp for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.

Officers noticed a woman appearing distressed walking on South Main Street during the early morning hours yesterday. She told the PD that she had just been sexually assaulted at a friend's residence in the 1000 block of Tuolumne Avenue by an unknown assailant.

An officer went to the residence and arrested 26-year-old Jonathan Fernandes of Angels Camp. He was booked into Calaveras County Jail and faces a felony charge of rape by force.




Morning Traffic Accidents 

Arnold, CA - Snowfall is resulting in some vehicle accidents this morning in the Arnold area.

The CHP reports that a Jeep has driven into a snow bank on Moran Road at Highway 4. There is a separate accident reported on Highway 4 just east of Moran Road. No injuries have been reported from either of the crashes. Travel with caution this morning.

Calaveras County Missing Man   Photo with this story

Angels Camp, CA -- The Angels Camp Police Department has received a report of a missing man.

71-year-old Gerald Leroy Garrett was last seen wearing jeans, a plaid shirt and tennis shoes. Garrett may be driving a burgundy Ford Expedition with a California license plate #4GVTO45. The Police Department reports that he has been taking medications for depression. Anyone with information on Garrett's whereabouts should call the Angels Camp Police Department at 209-736-2567.
