Great turnout Tuolumne County! Many of us know the sad impact of cancer in our families. It's good to see the support network growing. Keep it going!
Save the Ta ta's
We have been aware for years. Mother and Grandmother had it. Where is the vaccine. Early detection is fine. But how about a cure. Polio was wiped out in the 50's but they are still cutting and giving radiation just like the 50's. Maybe leeches will work.
jlav - many more are aware, but not enough. There are too many who still do not know the benefits of mammograms, for instance. No, there is no cure (yet) and no vaccine. But polio is caused by a virus. We don't know what causes cancer - if it's not a fungus, bacteria or virus there will probably not be a vaccine. And yes there is still surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. However there are many more evidenced based treatments, more successes and in many cases fewer severe side effects. And no we are not "giving radiation just like the 50's" - radiation yes, but it is a very, very different procedure than 60 years ago - much more precise, efficacious and we are no longer using things like cobalt. While treatment isn't perfect, we have come a long, long way. There is still work to do.
Dr. Moonrise. The work should be finished. Billions of wasted money with little results. I guess you missed that class that Cervical Cancer is caused by a virus and women under 25 should be immunized. The 50s didn't have super computers and 60 years of trial and mostly fail. FDA stalls a lot of promising drugs and Big pharm makes big bucks on the drugs that barely work. Greed and Obama Care will kill use all. And at lease they come up with a less evasive diagnostic equipment that doesn't torture women.
