We know a lot about this fire but not how it started. Unknown hunter? How about some real investigation into its cause.
I don't buy the "Hunter" story. If it was that simple why is it still listed as under investigation on inci web? My guess is that was just a story to pacify, the no longer investigative, News Media. Looks like it worked as no one in the media is asking questions.
Hoggie77...I smell a rat. First off it was not rifle hunting season. Deer hunting was open for bow hunters; possibly a black powder hunter. The hunters that get lost in the woods (6) opening day are all new rifle hunters (after the fire started) I have never heard of a bow hunter getting lost, poaching or bothering anything or anyone. Usually the fire starter is paraded out, thrown in jail, etc. My bet..Illegal pot growers and doesn't fit the narrative of hard working immigrants.
There is rumor circulating around about how the USFS arrived on the seine when the fire was a few acres and decided not to call for additional strike teems or air support. If this is true, it wouldn't be the first time this action has provided overtime and hazardous duty pay for these government workers. The "let it burn policy" still lives in the harts of some USFS employees.
USFS focuses of Fire Management while CALFIRE focuses on fire protection. Different philosophies and attack methods between the two agencies.
@metalbill Listen the forest service has never had the "let it burn policy" that is the National Park Service. Which is the Department of Interior. Get it right before you comment. So I have to ask you were you at the "scene" on the initial attack? Also there were orders for strike "teams" however due to other fires throughout the region it takes time to get the resources moving.
