Just curious... Why does Camacho's keep opening and closing and opening and closing in different locations all over the county?
Jrenee, your right they do move ALL OVER. Good question. I just want to know why were not mentioning the old dennys, A chicken wing place will surely be the savior of our local economy!
I want one of Dave’s “Big & Nasty” burritos.. Never found another that could match it..
jrenee: Answer to your question, I presume its because they sell a burrito called the "Big and Nasty" which has so much meat in it you only need to buy one burrito every 3 months.
Kinda like a light bulb, the can make a light bulb which never burns out, but if they did nobody would buy light bulbs.
I'm wondering why there isn't more support for good jobs in the county. We don't need a bunch more minimum wage jobs, we need good jobs that pay well and provide benefits
Of course the EDC would like to attract good job producers, so would all the cities in the Valley with ready access to interstate highways, natural gas, etc, advantages we lack. So Mr. Cope is spending his time looking for new tenants for the shopping centers. More places to sell us stuff, when we don't have the money or desire to buy more stuff anyway. The shopping center developers clearly overbuilt, there were vacant stores even before the second Bush recession started in 2007-2008. Is this what the taxpayers are paying him for? Isn't there a better way to spend that money?
As to Camachos, we used to be regular customers back in the day. The last time we were, at the location near Staples, we all felt sick later. Maybe we just can't tolerate such greasy food anymore.
If Larry Cope is so darn smart why doesn't he open a business? Oh he did, its called the economic development authority. I'm sorry but I just don't see the benefit. It seems to me that the Wal-Mart Shopping Center should be looking to fill the space where Block Buster was, and certainly the building owners down town are looking to fill there empty space. To be honest people with money and a good idea to start a new business are being carful. With things like Obama Care, and Governor Brown Rot passing new regulations every month I don't blame them. The other thing is that if they see a niche may not commit because the EDA may be working to bring in a chain store in the same business. EDA is wrong to start outside the County to fill spaces.
I've known Dave and his family for more than 20 years, you will not find a man who works harder than Dave & family. They never put in a 10 or 12 hour day, its more like 16 hours. They move because they make business decisions for better locations. They do what it takes to grow their business.
Blockbuster building would be good for a grocery store or an american buffet.
A side order of drugs...too.
And they who supposedly pay..
Are on tick.
metalbill ....all of us who really know Dave know the real reasons..bad deals with investors...poor management decisions and etc are the real reasons, not better locations.
Now instead of spending millions on fake football fields the schools should be spending that money on CAD design training, CNC machines, software development technology and specialty IT training for all of the students. Not some 6 million dollar field, 30 or 40 boys a year get to use for a couple of months. I could turn this areas education around in three years if given the chance and so could most of the people with common sense. But we have no say because we don't have a fake university of la Salle degree.
These kids need extensive hands on training and less time reading about doing things.
Romeoq55, it's not 30-40 boys who use the field. There are 3 football teams, freshmen, jr. varsity, and varsity, so maybe around 150-175 boys. Then, there are the soccer teams, both boys and girls, not to mention the track teams that use the track. And, then there is the band who uses the field for marching practice. So, your 30-40 boys has turned into at least,300 boys and girls.
I do agree that the education system is flawed, though.
