Pinks Slips Too Early?

It may make sense for the districts, and will likely reduce the giving of pink slips and then rehiring, BUT, it isn't in the best interst of the teacher trying to find a new job.....as a teacher, knowing you might be out of a job sooner gives you more time to look. If you need to relocate, that extra time can help, especially if the teacher has a family...
It would be difficult to find a job to start in August and prepare for a family move if you only find out you are in danger of being cut in July.
But, if it's better for the students, I guess it's the lesser of the problems.

Can anybody tell me exactly what Silva does, to collect the kind of check he gets every month, and don't tell be he controls a bunch of schools. The schools under him are minor compared to his check.

We have reported that he requests funding and represents rural schools Statewide and Nationally http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/1478353/Silva-Represents-Rural-America-In-DC.html

The Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools website states: We provide services for the districts in a variety of areas, including Special Education, Alternative Education, Teacher Credentialing, Accounting, Business and Information Services, Instruction, Media and Technology Services and links to various programs that we have also done news articles on such as fit for life: http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/1648484/Students-Fit-For-The-Future.html

Do they need to have a private auditor look at the books .
It seems to me every year schools need fund raisers and new bond measures
to keep the doors open .
Theses are the people that supposed to teach our kids , and they do not
even know there own budget ! The state has to stop this nonsense.
It must be easier to threaten education with cuts than set priorities
in the budget , and when the money runs out that is it . that take a real
manager not a pollution .
Education , infrastructure , health care , I understand that it has
become clouded with the I wants and special interest groups but is that not
what a manager does set a budget and work out what and when things can be
done ?

This is ridiculous. My wife was laid off via pink slip and if she found out that she was unemployed in Aug. 1st and the new school year starts in mid Aug. This is a scam, this is when the superintendent told her the pink slip was a formality and they would not let her go... B.S. Instead of trying to find a job when schools are looking for teachers in the beginning of the year. Instead we would have higher unemployment. Wake up people you would have trouble in the school districts instead of teaching you would have temporary staff due to high teacher turn over and a poor education for our kids.

decisions are made by those who show up, until those who want to show up..are excluded.
Be it by regulations, by omission (and never think that the govt doesn't sin by it, ON PURPOSE).
Decisions are also made to make people look bad..by picking what would Make them look bad.

Same old same old. The pink slip game is old news. When they actually lay someone off then write an article. We have all learned the game in the last few years.Send out 400 pink slips and actually lay off 4 or 5.The sky is falling.....the sky is falling...

How did we ever educate any one in this state ? Schools cant afford
books or supplies for the basics . What happened ? Oh ya we are trying to
all things to every one . Go back the basic education .
Let the state worry about illegal imagrants and any other special
interast group that feels left out . where I grew up all races physical
abilities were treated the same we had bullies and worked that out to .
My point is every time some one has a coplaint we through money at it
WE can not afford every little issue . YOU can not keep spending money that
is not there . It would be better to have a secure teaching job than a non
sustainable job . or a job that is at the whim of special interast groups

Sabrina, I believe that both high school superintendent, both also do the same functions, Teacher credentialing is done by the state, let see for all 3 that equates into close to 400,000+ in salaries not counting benefits, include all the sups from the other school districts it appears to be a big duplication of effort. The sup from Modesto school district , makes about the same salary and he controls all the schools in his district, thru principals.
