I am confused by the article saying she was cited for a DUI. I realize she has major injuries, but shouldn't she be in custody, arrested, for this? Is there a difference in being "cited" and being "arrested"? Thank God no one died.

Considering she was airlifted to Modesto to treat major injuries, I'm guessing they'll arrest her when she's not on her death bed.

If you are in an accident with injuries, and are taken to a hospital, you can't be arrested until you are medically cleared to go to jail. If you are arrested, you go straight to jail. They don't like inmates with major injuries in their jail cells.

all I can say is PLEASE
DO NOT drink and drive!
TWO teen boys are hurt from this crash. This could have been avoided. Taxi's and friends or relatives are a better alternative to drunk driving. Prayers to the TRENT boys and Family

Two 16 year old Trent's? Benjamin and Jackson Trent are they twins?
I thought teens could not drive teens at night without adults? No teen passengers for first twelve months without an adult?
Something wrong here?
I hope they all recover from their injuries quickly.

I believe Teens can transport their siblings at nite without an adult. Do you really think that had anything to do with the accident ?????

You can be arrested in the hospital, in fact that is what law enforcement did for years as standard practice. That is until they realized that there were two problems with that tactic. 1)When a suspect is under arrest they have to be physically controlled, i.e...handcuffs, in a cell, guarded by a peace officer etc..That cost money. And 2)Once a suspect is arrested, their physical welfare becomes the responsibility of the detaining agency, which includes, medical care. Again, big money. Solution? cite and release at the hospital for misdemeanors, or arrest upon hospital release for felonies. In rare cases where the suspect might manage to escape from the hospital before release, we would assign an officer 24/7 to guard the "suspect" (still not a prisoner). Boring duty, and a waste of $.

Sonoraman:exceptions

Necessity of family member including yourself, when adequate transportation facilities are unavailable and you need personal transportation or to transport a family member. You must carry a signed statement by a parent/legal guardian verifying the reason you must drive and the probable date the necessity will end.
