Let's not forget about Tuolumne County. They are in desperate need of volunteers too.

I could see using that money to EMPLOY people. What a waste.

@LNWoods
The money comes from a federal grant so it is specifically earmarked for this purpose. I wonder if you would be calling it a "waste" if your house caught on fire, you were involved in a vehicle accident, or you or a family member had a medical emergency where you needed firefighters and first responders. I bet you would complain there weren't enough people or they took too long then.

and yet in the Bay Area some of the firefighters get over $100,000 in overtime alone. The figures came out last week. Up here, it's volunteers, and in my eyes a lot more dangerous. I can see exactly where LNWOODS is coming from, and why the state is always on the brink of bankruptcy.

Volunteers are the backbone of rural fire protection. It takes many hours of training and personal committment to fight fire. They do it for their community not to make a buck.

Applaud and support your rural fire departments, without them ALL emergency care and fire response would be hindered......think about it if no one was there to respond when you dial 911 because you "live in the sticks".
