A Drop In Gas Consumption

An increase in diesel use doesn't suprise me. Lots more diesel cars and trucks on the road than there use to be. VW has a great line of diesel powered cars that get amazing mileage compared to gas powered cars. Now if only the price of diesel would come back into line with what it should cost as compared to gasoline.

If you are able to buy and ride a motorcycle or a large type 250cc plus scooter(Honda Silver Wing) and use even less fuel. Nothing wrong with riding in good weather when possible and save the car for only the big trips and you can still carry small amounts of groceries, the mail, go to doctors visits and such. Yes some people must drive their vehicles every single day due to kids and other issues but there are lots of times where a motorcycle or large scooter will get you around any city or country area, save on fuel, time on the road and more. Oh did I mention less maintenance costs too?

I suspect the decline in consumption of gas is a partial cause of the increase in gas prices recently. Refiners have revenue targets to meet, and if consumption drops, then prices have to go up to compensate. The only question is how much of a price increase they can get away with before people really start taking notice and radically change their driving habits. The answer so far seems to be, quite a big one.
