I wish these guys would spend as much time on certifying/registering voters as they do worrying about law abiding citizens.
Anonso Quijano   02/08/2013 18:44:56
Calling any proposed laws "common sense" is just a way of saying that if you are against it, you are too stupid to matter. It is a loathsome tactic used by sleazy people.
sctonc   02/08/2013 18:55:22
Another example of California trying to be leader in gun laws across the country. While the rest of the country is enacting laws to mirror what Californi already has, this state decides to enact harsher laws. A permit to buy ammunition??? Come on now!! Banning semi-automatic long guns capable of accepting detachable magazines? Looks my my .22 caliber squirrel gun would be illegal under these proposed laws. I know he is going to say it eventually, so I will join ludicrous85 in saying this is LUDICROUS.
rrhs   02/08/2013 19:11:34
san fran and l.a want to dictate to the rest of the state .
they can not even clean up there own back yard . my owning guns is a problem
them democrats you know the people who think every one should give up our
costitutional rights so they can have another raise . and say look at what
I did for you I protected you from guns and bullets .

WHAT % of the population are we being protected from less tha .5 %
Our leaders need to start leading not grandstandig .
Start by enforceing the current GUN LAWS . how many lawers now serving
as legislators made a living pleaing away the gun laws we have now ,for there own win loss record . now they want to tax guns bullets clips .recheck already legal guns .
squirter   02/08/2013 19:18:11
Sounds like common sense proposals. Can't wait for the whining from all the right wing conspiracy theory nutcases who think that the government is coming to take their guns away.
rrhs   02/08/2013 19:21:19
I say the heavy thinkers who voted these people in should rethink
what got there freedoms in the first place .
if l.a and sanfran want to tax there own residents for guns go ahead,
I do not live there .
once they under stand this is just a feel good I am incharge set of
bills it will be to late
I am a 30 year union member my union told me to vote dem I did not

First of all, the Mayors of San Francisco and Los Angles can kiss my Sonora Pass.

What we need is to divide the state in half, not from North to South, but East to West.

We in the Eastern part of California, the majority, think, act, work and live differently then the low life, free cell phone, illegal loving, rainbow, anti-protection, government free stuff loving, anti-working, give me all I need, brain dead Western part of California.

If an 9.0 earth quake ever hits California and take the first 80 mile of shore line from Oregon to Mexico into the sea, That would make this state go from blue to red over night.

This state is so anticonstitutional, pro socialist, pro communist, pro illegal,anti-gun,
It's make it hard to an true American to live here.
imjustsayin   02/08/2013 20:38:17
These guys have gone completely off the reservation. With this new legislature they will probably get these bills thru, this state is the laughing stock of the nation and apparently hell bent on keeping it that way.
VoteTheConstitution   02/08/2013 20:49:55
Anyone who does not comprehend the meaning of "shall not be infringed" does not deserve to hold public office.

Thankfully and gratefully none of these facist received a vote from me...
SierraMatt   02/09/2013 00:23:50
I'm not sure how many times it needs to be said, criminals, deranged people, people bent on killing other people will not obey any laws passed period.

Its illegal to drive whilw drunk, yet each and everyday thousands of people get in thier cars after having a night out, with the same consequences.

These feel good laws are not the answer. Mental health and personal responsibility are the answer.
Hogdog   02/09/2013 00:59:50
It's an endless barrage now.
VoteTheConstitution   02/09/2013 05:23:26
The violation of one Constitutional amendment is just as vile as the violation of any of the rest of them.
Any thinking American should appalled by this breach of justice and violation of the oath of office, regardless of political affiliation.

No Mr. Steinberg. Every tyrant (including yourself) knows that registration is the first step to confiscation. Government should have a little fear of the people, not the other way around. If politicians like Mr. Stein and Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein know the citizens are helpless, there will be nothing at all to stop them from running us over with a steam roller. Our Constitutional rights will disappear if we allow them to eviscerate the 2nd amendment in this piecemeal fashion.
Registration of vehicles is not the same as registration of guns. Driving is not a Constitutional right. The right to bear arms is, stop being silly trying to correlate the two.
Homebrewer   02/09/2013 07:53:40
Backgorund check/permit to purchase ammunition? So the screening/fees you pay for when purchasing the firearm isnt enough? Heck you cant enough find any ammo to purchase thanks to the "big scare" post Sandy Hook. It to vote out some legislators.
Homebrewer   02/09/2013 07:55:08
edit "Its time to vote out some legislators"
Ricky   02/09/2013 08:11:07
Republicans and democrats are all the same.....
harleydave   02/09/2013 08:55:06
Its amazing to me that they compare driving to gun ownership. My whole life it has been forced down my throat that driving is a privilege not a right. But gun ownership IS a right and its backed up by the constitution! I have been around guns my whole life and I have never used or wanted to use one for violence of any nature. I don't even hunt! I just target shoot. Why should I be punished for being a law abiding citizen who enjoys having and using a semi auto (Ca legal) rifle? Gang bangers, drugdealers, government officials and law enforcement/military can have them! You shouldn't pass laws that negatively affect citizens who didn't do anything wrong. I have caused no gun violence. Please don't infringe on my rights because others have no respect for life.
popz   02/09/2013 09:10:09
Sorry Worthless feel good legislation that punishes law abiding citizens.
Business as usual in our screwed up state.
The only thing worth a * in California any more is our weather.
The Dumocraps will figure out how to screw that up somehow too.
ThBeav   02/09/2013 09:20:54
NOw which of these laws, if they were in place before, would have prevented the shootings?
Many guns are stolen. My guns have never killed anyone, they sit in a safe all day. I have to wait 10 days before I buy a gun even if i buy it at a gun show or from a private party and register it. So what are you really changing?
thegiantkahuna   02/09/2013 09:24:27
10 new bills, and not a one of them will reduce gun violence.

Absurd.

To put this nonsense in to perspective, look at where gun violence is occuring now, and their current laws.

Washington DC - total ban on guns, high homicide rate.
Chicago - strict gun laws, high homicide rate.
then continue on the list and it gets really interesting

2nd- St. Louis. -Democrat mayor
3rd- Oakland, Calif -Democrat Mayor
4th- Memphis, Tenn -Democrat mayor
5th- Birmingham, Ala -Democrat Mayor
6th- Atlanta -Democrat Mayor
7th- Baltimore -Democrat Mayor
8th- Stockton, Calif. -Democrat Mayor
9th- Cleveland -Democrat Mayor

So maybe the relationship is not guns, but Democrats?
Justme   02/09/2013 10:15:53
It's funny how he says "when it comes to gun violence and gun ownership" as if all gun owners are violent. Most people that own guns obtained legally do not use them for violence. They're used for either hunting, target shooting, or self defense. Forcing people to register guns isn't going to reduce gun violence because criminals don't obtain guns legally. No matter how many "loopholes" they close, criminals will always be able to obtain guns. If you take away the rights of upstanding citizens and get rid of legally owned guns, then you will see a huge increase in gun violence because the criminals will always have guns.
redline   02/09/2013 12:07:21
