Maybe the next poll should be " Will you defend your Country and Constition with deadly force" ?
Seems to me that's where this is going.
rrhs   02/09/2013 12:59:17
NO to strictor gun laws ,
Hogdog   02/09/2013 13:34:01
Absolutely NOT! and I unfortunately was not counted in that poll. But put another vote on NO to any further infringement on the second amendment.
squirter   02/09/2013 14:28:07
I can't understand why Mother Lode residents wouldn't want stricter gun laws that could keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them. If you are a law abiding citizen, you don't have anything to worry about. Any new gun laws won't affect you. Gun owners should be required to register all the guns they own so that if they are stolen, they can be put in a national database of stolen weapons. This makes recovery of the gun or guns more likely. Law enforcement needs to know who has weapons in the event they respond to a home where there is a domestic dispute so they aren't shot at by an angry or unstable person. Gun laws are designed to protect law enforcement and the public at large. What is wrong with that?

All this talk about our 2nd Amendment rights and, meanwhile, our 3rd Amendment rights are trampled upon without discussion. Where is the outrage? We need a well-regulated militia to protect us from this travesty.

No one wants stricter gun laws.
Gun laws dont work.
They cant enforce the existing gun laws.
And where the gun laws are the strictest (Washington DC, Chicago, etc) gun violence is out of control.
The clear implication is that gun laws result in more gun violence, as the criminals are emboldened to commit more violence.

Besides which, nonsensical laws such as adding tax on ammo just means that everyone will purchase their ammo in Reno.

Get rid of these LIBERAL lies and propaganda and do something!
Despite horrific tragedies like Newtown and Aurora, the rate of gun murder is at its lowest since 1981.
Everyone wants violence reduced; whether with knives, baseball bats, or guns.

what is the right target?
Psych drugs
Direct our lawmakers to the RIGHT TARGET. IT'S NOT GUNS!
JRC   02/09/2013 18:27:28
I'll bet that if you poll the rest of the country we'd find that only politicians and citidiots are in favor and clueless as to how gun laws really work. Read the Roberti-Roos act and see how many "so-called-assault-gun" laws are already on the books in CA. How many bad guys are going to read that?!? We don't need more laws! WE NEED LAWS THAT ARE ENFORCEABLE AND ENFORCED!
BigWaveRider   02/09/2013 20:50:13
California already has some of the strictest laws pertaining to guns in the nation. We do not need to make even more laws, and regulations. Every person who legally purchases a firearm has to go thru a background check, wait 15 days, and must have a safe or trigger lock. All of these things are great. The only problem is, criminals who usually commit the crimes do not follow the laws we have put in place.
wethehonestppl   02/10/2013 09:57:24
Furthermore, SOOO many people disgusted with an incompetent MELE also spoke.

If MML wants to project any trends, perhaps they should learn what sampling is and how it's done.

The wording in the surveys and questions, the ads on the site, the agenda and wording of stories are obvious to anyone that knows anything about polling, public opinion and journalism. I take it for what it is, the pervasive conservative banter that dominates forums like this.

However, those of who educate ourselves and dare to think outside the little box are NOT REPRESENTED here.

It would be great to see some actual REPORTING on such an important topic, such as the facts regarding the NRA, the ATF, those in congress in cahoots with them and why, and what legislation has lead to this mania.

Report much?
mcarden   02/10/2013 11:35:25
With all due respect, I don't think the response to a one question poll like that really means very much. If you'd asked "Would you support stricter automobile laws", or "would you support stricter internet laws", you probably would have gotten a similar negative response. There are also those of us who think that more laws in this state are rather pointless, as we have a lot on the books already, and would have voted no also. Finally, the respondents are self-selecting, unlike regular polls, which are based on random samples of the population. Naturally the people who feel most threatened by the laws will want to express an opinion on them.
RonaldReagan   02/11/2013 07:49:52
The headline should read, "The MyMotherLode.com readers who responded to our question do not want strict gun laws".
remington   02/11/2013 10:27:25
squirter i totally disagree with you. its not the governments business to know what guns i have or do not have. when an officer responds to a domestic call they are trained to always assume a weapon is at the scene. more gun laws will help nothing but bring more power to the governemnt. all they want to do is disarm the country. how are the gun laws in chicago working? when will people wake up. meth and cocaine are illegal but how has that worked. they are still on the streets. i say arm the resposible citizens to the fullest. they wont do that because its not about societies safetly at all.
sctonc   02/11/2013 12:37:02
@wethehonestppl
Maybe the reason you find so much "conservative banter" in the forums on this site is because this is a county that has many conservative people with conservative views and ideals here?
squirter   02/11/2013 13:24:15
Those of you who think that the government is coming to take your guns away must be listening to too much Rush Limbaugh and or watching too much Fox News. You folks believe in the grand right wing conspiracy theory that the government is the enemy and weilds too much power. Out of curiosity, how many of you who believe this are receiving benefits from the government such as police and fire protection, use of roads, public facilities, or are collecting Social Security, Medicare, or Disability? Still think government is too big?
Ret Co Social wkr   02/11/2013 13:49:18
New laws mean increased revenues. It's called; "taxation by violation". The logic is if a person can afford to buy a gun they can afford to pay a fine. The State has made laws so confusing that it makes a criminal out of a law abiding person with no malicious intent.. But for the real criminal element whom are broke and unemployed the consequences are minimal thus leaving the community at risk.
Danbo   02/11/2013 16:03:23
@squirter... The simple fact of the matter is that the government DOES want to take away our guns. If not, then why the sudden push to ban "assault weapons?" It's because the recent high profile shootings, and it is easy to vilify these guns (even though they can't define them), and then enact "common sense" gun laws. How many are killed with "assault weapons" versus handguns? Or cars? Or baseball bats? Or hammers? This is not at all about public safety, but 100% about politics.
Danbo   02/11/2013 16:05:33
@Michigan Slim... 3rd amendment? Is the government quartering soldiers in your house?
whoknew?   02/11/2013 17:03:37
Squirter its pretty simple. Either you are a sheeple who wants or feels the need of a Big Brother to tell you what to do, say and think. Others would rather make their own decisions, Take care of themselves and their families and be free to express their thoughts of discontent. I prefer the second choice and believe this is the type of people our founding fathers were. How come all of the sudden some feel that they were wrong about most everything they did??? Also you seem to think that police and fire protection, roads, public facilities, social security, medicare and disability are gifts from the government. I have news for you I pay for every one of those things every day of my life and I pay waaaaay too much because that "Big Government" you are so happy with can't manaage my money.
sierra14   02/11/2013 17:44:17
Here's what I know; This county is riddled with people who have itchy trigger fingers. These people, who call themselves outdoorsmen (though they never venture more that 5 yards from their oversized trucks), shoot guns just for giggles. I see them all the time while I am hiking on forest service land. The popular shooting areas are loaded with litter - bullet cases, 7-11 cups, and chip bags. Apparently it is legal. What about my right to a safe and peaceful hike in the woods?
Of course these people do not want stricter gun laws. Duh!!
JRC   02/11/2013 23:27:57
@wethehonestppl, SOOOO many people? You must be talking about the 10-15% that voted NO. Your not even close to the overwhelming majority that supports our Sheriff. Don't try to make your case based on the minority. If you can't handle it...
Crockett   02/12/2013 08:47:37
My young adult children see how foolish the slight majority of the country's population really is. I don't think you want the truth but just in case Google "California sks confiscation". Only an imbecile ignores history, facts and truth. While your at the computer check out this link to liberal mass murders.
http://www.conservapedia.com/Young_mass_murderers
Google both , Liberal mass murderers and Conservative mass murderers. PS: Our courts, jails and hospitals are overflowing with liberal criminals.
spritzer   02/12/2013 08:52:53
Squirter i agree,Well said!
spritzer   02/12/2013 09:03:08
Whoknew?,most of us pay taxes as well,What can you do about life in C.A. pay taxes vote obey laws, this is'nt lord of the flies or Planet of the Apes, I'm sure it's a little late to push the reset button because some people don't like the way things are,so When are "they" going to knock on my door or show up in a tank and take my guns....not in my lifetime. But it would make a neat movie and alll the paranoid people would finally be right.
squirter   02/12/2013 09:27:35
As a former law enforcement worker who's job was to enter stolen weapons into a national database for stolen firearms; I am amazed at how many law abiding "responsible' gun owners don't register or even record the serial numbers of the guns they own. I guess they don't care how many people the criminals who steal their guns kill. It is irresponsible not to provide law enforcement this information. If you so called responsible gun owners would register you guns, your have a much higher chance of getting your guns back once recovered from criminals, not to mention the piece of mind knowing that your gun wasn't used in a robbery or homicide. Stop with all this nonsense about the government coming to take your guns away.
