What a ludicrous law, I hope it won't pass. not because I don't want to pay to own my guns, but I can see a LOT of guns becoming "stolen" or "missing". Also if it were to pass you will for sure see a HUGE increase of unregistered guns hitting the "market", and a huge increase of "home made" firearms. This law, like many CA laws, will just back fire. Anyone else see more people leaving CA in the near future? This state is taking certain things WAY to far!

Sounds like another move like the Fire Tax Fee where people are going to be punished and charged for choices you make like where you live and activities you choose to participate in. On top of this I am sure that criminals who obtain guns in an illegal fashion will be sure to go and get their Liability Insurance for said guns. Sounds like another move by the politicians to make themselves feel better. Ask Chicago how they feel, having some of the strictest gun laws in the nation yet they still have one of the highest gun crime rates in the nation? Perfect example of how the criminals don't care about laws and will not follow them.

I wish they would look up the meaning of that pesky infringed thing.

Typical, Ca has several laws that everyone keep their guns locked up. You can't even buy one and take it out of the store without the lock on it.
More CA governmental waste.

So now we have an assemblyman proposing to hold responsible law abiding gun owners liable for the actions of those who don't obey the law. When are these left wing thinkers going to realize the gun is just the tool of people who make poor decisions. But because it is the hot topic of the day lets just punish everyone who has one. Stop attacking the tool and address the issue of actually holding responsible, prosecuting and actually punishing the people who chose to use guns in an illegal manor. I believe those people are called criminals, not responsible law abiding citizens.

Hmmm, I wonder who would profit from this attack on law abiding gun owners...
Every time a law is passed follow the money. 99 Times out of 100 it's about padding someone's pocket, not about safety or justice.
This is just as illegal as requiring us buy health insurance. Keep on voting Democrat and watch your rights erode.

Another prime example of the abuse of power by the democrats. This is clearly an unconstitutional act of gross infringement on all Californian's second amendment rights. They can not mandate insurance to exercise one's second amendment rights any more than they can mandate insurance before you can speak your opinion (first amendment) or be secure in your home from unlawful search and seizure(4th amendment)or exercise the right to refuse to self incriminate(5th amendment) or any other of the constitutional amendments that were adopted by our forefathers specifically to guard against this type of blatant tyranny. And if the elitists in Sacramento pass this unconstitutional law they know they have the taxpayers money to defend their tyranny in the courts system. ENOUGH California!

That is a great idea. I like how it presumes guilt. There is no reason to presume that people will use guns to protect themselves, it is far more logical to presume that all gun owners are guilty.
Government should also require everyone that owns knives, and baseball bats, to carry liability insurance. After all, many homicides are done with weapons other then guns.
Next up the Government should require all smokers to carry death insurance. After all, all smokers are going to die.
And while Government is at it, require all illegal aliens to pay for thier health care and education.
Go Democrats!

So I wonder if this assembly man will go to all those gang members will purchase insurance before they go do a drive by. This idiot will only drive more law abiding residents out of this state. Get a clue people this is another way to take more control of our constitutional rights away from its citizens.

As an owner of sporting arms, I'm for reasonable gun control measures. But I,m not seeing how insuring my rifles is necessary or reasonable. I'll bet this measure was the idea of the insurance industry as a ploy to make more money. Requiring those who purchase guns to take a safety course and register their guns is reasonable, but requiring insurance is ridiculous.

Some politician made a backroom deal with the California insurers. Politicians don't do anything without some type of self-serving gain. More fees, more expenses.
What gun owner would agree to this unless the politicians plan on tying an insurance card to firearm and bullet purchases. Gun damage and and claims are so ridiculously low,.. unless they are wanting the law abiding gun owners to pay for the damage and medical bills caused by criminals and gang-bangers in the cities.

Remember corrupt California Insurance Commissioner Charles Quackenbush? He was never prosecuted and was last heard from as a Louisiana Sheriff Deputy. None of the rules he implemented was revoked. The Insurance Lobby has become the predominant force in California politics. A vehicle has never caused an accident without a DRIVER being in command or parking negilgently, and neither will a firearm. Do not trust the insurance industry, or the politicians who do their bidding.
