Only in California can a state ignore federal law then try to tell local communities they can't make their own laws for their area.

Does TC ban pharmacies? Liquor stores? Spritzer, all those "legal alternatives" you mention are far more toxic and dangerous to one's health and ability to function than marijuana.

It's about time the Supreme Court took a look at this. There are too many loopholes in the law allowing for so called doctors who do nothing but write prescriptions for pot for people who aren't even ill. No exams or proof of illness is required to get a script to purchase or cultivate pot. The law needs to be cleaned up so that doctors don't profit by running so called clinics and dispensaries giving healthy people scripts for pot. This state is a joke with those profiting by this stupid loophole filled law. How many so called patients would be willing to take marajuana in a pill form for their ailments rather than get high smoking it? The answer is none.

Always love to hear the feedback from those who scream about states rights and freedom of choice, then whine when it's an issue of freedom of choice and states rights that they happen to personally disagree with. And Amazed - did you READ the article? The court is hearing arguments, which means they haven't ruled yet.

Sierrazd. I did read the article and have researched on my own. The state has already veered from federal law in allowing it to start off with and not allowing the DA's Office to file certain cases in Federal Court. The statue was intended to relieve TERMINALLY ILL patients of pain. And like the local shops discovered it has to be non profit. Even by this states current laws. I personally agree to give the terminally ill patients everything and anything they need to relieve the pain but that does not include insomnia, eating disorders or thumb pain from playing video games.

I've said it before, WHO CARES.. If weed or other drugs were made legal tomorrow would any of the "anti" crowd run out and start using? NO, making them legal or illegal is not going to change if someone wants to use them or wants to purchase. I can tell you buying weed in Tuolumne county is easier than buying a gallon of milk after 8pm.
Its similar to gun laws, Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the country *but* it also has the highest gun murder rate, why? because the laws don't work, they are simply a "feel good measures" for politicians to put a stake in the ground and say, "We are taking a stance on gun control and weed control!" or whatever the hot issue is at the time.
People that want to smoke weed will smoke, laws or no laws

spritzer is right we should all be strung out on vicodin and norco's instead of a natural plant. I mean c'mon people, if pot fixed everything than our war for opium would be pointless and our soldiers would be in Afghanistan guarding opium fields and dieing for nothing. So please everyone go get pills to fix your problems and please please please dont use anything natural to make your illness better just stick to chemicals and government funded heroine pills.

Doctors give out pain killers like candy for a stubbed toe or anything else that puts you in the sad face catagory. You can buy alcohol at every street corner. Give me a break! So what if someone is profiting selling pot, were do you think they spend the money? If its a legal bussiness the feds are getting there cut, its a win win deal for everyone. It makes too much sence is what the problem is!

Is it sooo cool to be able to blaze it up? peace and love, maybe we should have a needle park like other countries. You don't need the gov. to let you smoke, if it's so important just don't be stupid about...A lot of Dr. make good money handing out those get out of jail free cards. And yes pot is not as harmful but any kind of smoking is.
Why do we need a special place to buy and smoke and hang out,why does'nt it come from the pharmacy like everything else. This issue is almost as stupid as the the right to own assualt weapons.Somebody always thinks it's unfair to follow the laws ...cry about it. Haters

Could have been #1 fill gas tank #2 drive car #3 kill people, so we should make gas illegal. Or how about, #1 start fire in fireplace, #2 go to bed, #3 die in a house fire so we should make wood fires in the house illegal. We could go on on with this pretzel logic but it makes no sense. Because people smoke pot or drink beer does not make them drive and kill people. If we are going to regulate everything because of what one individual might do, then we will have to make everything illegal, including water (drinking too much water can kill you).

I laugh out loud at all the hypocrites that jump up and down about legalizing natural growing "pot" as you guzzle down man made, legalized drug called alcohol. Your relatives were more than likely running moonshine during prohibition. Do your homework people! Prescription drugs (synthetics)are a much larger problem than marijuana. If you have prescription drugs in your medicine cabinet, beer and/or wine in your fridge, you have NOTHING to say against marijuana. Alcohol hasn't always been legal either, but the government now taxes it. Remember that history lesson? If we teach our kids correctly, they may try it and ditch it. But, if we lie to them and make it sound worse than it is, we discredit ourselves and they won't believe us when we talk about the evils of cocaine/meth/heroin.

Squirter I am curious as to why you are so against marijuana. Is it the simple fact that it is illegal in most cases? Is it that you just don't like the idea of someone getting high? You do realize that alcohol, tobacco and legal narcotics are worse for you and far more dangerous than pot don't you?. Why is it that the folks who say "I would never do that" believe that they are spiritually and morally superior than the ones who do? The world is a better place when we live and let live. The truth is the so called potheads aren't hurting anyone. Hell leve em alone and hey give me that pill. I'll take it LOL

Those old enough, remember the Quaalude clinics in Cali-shut down. The speed clinics (weight

squirter, you are wrong. Marinol is back in full production along with generic brands that some Sonora pharmacies currently carry. Seems still that the only difference between a flower and a weed is a judgment....

It amuses me that some of these comments try to equate marijuanna laws and gun laws. Last time I checked, use of marijuanna has never directly killed anyone.
Banning dispensaries only truly harms people who legitimately need marijuanna, the people for whom the law was written. Everyone else just goes back to their neighborhood drug dealer, who LOVES that the dispensary was shut down. What a boom for his business!
From all accounts I've heard, the local dispensaries where well run. Doesn't it say something that the Sonora PD had to use some odd non-profit technicality to take them down? If people are going to be buying it anyway, and they will, isn't it best to have it go through a respectable business rather than in the shadows with some tweeter?

People who deal in pot and other drugs are harming society as a whole. They bring violence to our neighborhoods. People get harmed by theives who steal from all of us to support their drug habits. They steal legalally cultivated plants which sometimes involves the use of violence. They use violence to protect their illegal business. I don't have a problem with serious ill or termanal people obataining pot as medicine; but why not make it into a pill and prescribe it from a pharmacy? People wouldn't use pot for medicine if it didn't get them high. Legalize and prescribe it like any other drug and get rid of the so called doctors who give out pot scripts without any evidence of illness. I know what I'm talking about as an addict in recovery for many years.
