Let's review. We have Kohl's (marginal quality store), Walmart (low budget/china stuff), Big Lots (discount/off brands) Dollar store (discount/off brands), Grocery Outlet (discount/off brands)...10-14 consignment stores...is there a reason that we are unable to draw good quality businesses that offer higher paying jobs than just barely above welfare status? Please!! Enough minimum wage jobs!! Raise the bar!!!!!!

Wow. Traffic congestion getting onto and off of 108 is already hard for some people to navigate in this area...and we want to put a new business there? How about we be smart and make them renovate the auto parts store that went out of business on the corner (which would give them better egress), it might be smaller but with the right incentives it could be a good fit rather than building a new structure....

Oh why do we need another store that sells basically * ? Why don't they open in an exsisting building if they really insist on coming here?
We do not need another dollar store.

When we were in Arizona this store was everywhere. And I mean everywhere. You couldn't drive a mile or two without running in to another one, and another one, etc. They seem full of the same junk being sold by wally world...imported junk...is this what Tuolumne county really needs?

California's expanding business climate includes; thrift stores, taco trucks, check cashing, money transfer services, and dollar stores. Is this the future for the 9th largest economy in the world or just the Motherlode?

How about the old PGE/Kingsview brick building just above Grocery Outlet? Has parking, major traffic flow on that part of Mono Way already. @steady..I think the success of those mentioned businesses gives a picture of the real economy in our County

Totally agree with "steady"
We have it's (Dollar General) clone already--it's called "the dollar
store"
It would be nice to have "real" stores not tourist shops and certainly
not any more "look...I'm wearing someone else's clothes"
I'll go to Modesto for good stuff , thank you.

Larry, what about attracting manufacturing jobs? Maybe the Arnold could bring some of those plants back from his China trip?

Hey, don't run down the Grocery Outlet store. They have lots of good quality stuff mixed with the dented cans and outdated food, you just have to be careful and always check the dates. Dollar General are all over the midwest and south, and probably sell more smokes and junk food than anything else. Sort of like an expanded convenience store without the gas pumps outside. Nothing special, and I would agree is not an indicator of a healthy economy.

Seems to me that the only industry that ever comes to this county is more cheap junk stores paying minimum wages that only retain a small number of workers after the grand opening. All this store will do is create more of a traffic mess in Jamestown. Is he going to pay for a new traffic light or road repairs? If he is really an economic development guru then he should bring us companies that can provide jobs with some meat on the bone----so to speak.

Based on demographic data, Dollar General believes they will draw enough customers to make their investment in the community profitable. It is unreasonable to believe your community will attract high-end retail based on the incomes in the area. Unfortunately, because most municipalities rely on sales tax revenue, they focus their attraction efforts and land-use decisions on what will generate the most sales tax revenue not on what will attract the highest paying jobs.

retail jobs, no matter if they are Macy's or Walmart are going to pay much more than minimum wage.

They are looking at their demographic... (low income households) which are just across the highway from the Jamestown Location.... The real issue will be all the people crossing the highway on foot to get there... Kids etc, getting squished trying to get to some cheap toys and candy.... I see another stop light at the end of Main Street........

Alright just what this county needs another low budget, low income attraction to Sonora... This county need to start attracting higher end business. That may help bring up the quality of people in this county. When I was looking for a place to settle down and raise my family, Tuolumne County doesn't even pop into my mind. That's why in 40 days i'm gone, better opportunity else where. With less tweakers, meathheads, cokeheads, herion addicts. Sorry but I grew up here. NEVER want to come back.

If you want to support the economy in Modesto why not move there? Isn't it funny how everyone wants to whine about what's going on in Tuolumne County. If you don't like where you live move

The reason another dollar store is coming to the area is becasue that is all the majority of the population can afford. Unless you are working for the gubment up here, you are probably part-time/minimum wage....maybe we really need more cheap arse stores.
