Everyone who ever met Luc was in awe of him. He was loving, strong, inspiring, funny, and so genuine. This world has lost one of it's most beautiful souls.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

RIP Captain...

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941

RIP Captain Lucas Gruenther

We participated in the 10PM prayer last night for him. There was much hope he'd be found alive. We are heartbroken even though we didn't know him or his family. The world is a much dimmer place with him gone.

When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to be. ~Leonardo Da Vinci

To your family, I am very sorry for your loss.
What a man that we were able to share some time with here in Tuolumne County.
Iconoclast1 and Columbia Mom and Ridgegirl Thank You for your postings to reflect on.
sonoraman   01/31/2013 11:27:11
Can we please get our Tuolumne County USA flags lowered at half mast in honor of this fine young man?

Luc was such a nice person, always. Even back in the Twain Harte Elementary days, Luc was active in positive, constructive things, such as "Math Monsters". He was a leader, even way back then.

This community (even those who didn't know him well) is mourning this wonderful young man from our town.

If only our tears could help in some way. Thank God for this little baby. What a wonderful gift.

We are crying for you, family and friends of Luc. Know that we are full of love and prayers for you.

To the family, we thank you for your hero. Because of him and all United States Military personnel our families live and are proud to be in the blanket of freedom they provide.

Fly high and soar.

No words will ever give complete comfort to family and friends. We must know that you can not take the grief from the loss, without taking the love from the life. We must make the transition from seeing Luc with our eyes to seeing him with our hearts. Thank you Sir, for your service to our country. I will always remember watching the "Lucus F" driving all over town.
