It's about time. My only concern now is that he has anything to do with the hiring of a new replacement!

Let's hope that the board will set a realistic salary for the new superintendent. The amount of money paid to John Keiter and Joe Silva is a disgrace. That money could be put to better use by hiring more teachers and improving course offerings.

Save some money....they are totally unnecessary, glorified administrators. And, grossly overpaid!

JRC...alot of our thoughts exactly. Turn his office into a holding cell and spend his wages on a few guards.

May be a good time to unify high school districts while letting each maintain its own identity.
The rest of the world seems to do it successfully.
Hmm...shared services and no identity crisis.
The new normal.

I have no idea what a school superintendent does or earns, but from a perspective viewpoint, the Governor of California, the 8th largest econony in the world, had his salary reduced on 12/3/2012 to $165,288 per year.

A lot of positive comments by the first seven who posted........Be interesting to read the other post as they come in. First Urquhart, now Keiter......There is hope after all.

Good bye, good riddance and please don’t come back. This has been the worst 10 years, of scandals, lack of discipline, targeting and disgracing good teachers and academics in the school history. Why are we letting him have anything to do with finding his replacement? Summerville deserves better. Why not let the parents have a say. They can’t do any worse.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall of his going away "party." Either you will hear nothing but crickets chirping or the staff will chip in for a live band to play songs like "Celebration" and "Here Comes the Sun" and "Walking on Sunshine." Too bad the spineless board will allow him to remain in charge by overseeing the hiring of his heir and successor.

I hope this year’s graduation is about the students, not like last year when they talked about Urquhart. Kieter has done nothing good for Summerville, so there forth his name should not even be mentioned.

Speaking as a former Twain Harte El. & Summerville High student, and somebody who has worked closely, as an adult, with T.H. Elementary and S.H. School boards, I would like to thank people like Mr. Urquart and Dr. Keiter for their years of service. They are both worth their wieght in gold!!!

I agree with carolr51!! Urquhart gone too. . . Am I seeing a pattern ???? Could this be spreading to the next high school in our county??? Spring cleaning could be such a good thing and cost effective too!

Dr. Keiter has done a great job as a superintendent, he has kept this district afloat in hard times and really cares about what is best for the kids. He has been an asset to our school district and does a lot more than just push papers. As for turning his office into a holding cell that is ridiculous and offensive to the parents of Summerville Students who are a great group of kids. I would hope before judging people, people would ensure they know all the facts.

Tsarsko: at what price? Financially he might have had some successes, but not without his staff (mainly Tonya). What about personally? Running a school means leading people. True leaders do not lead with threats and intimidation and bullying and condescension but with simple respect.

Respect should be given when respect is earned. Bottom line, every year teachers get laid off, but never an administrator. The whole system needs to be revamped. It's outdated, has a disproportionate salary scale, and bores the kids to tears. We waste the opportunity to really teach, and ready these kids for the grownup world.
