I'm assuming this was a federal grant? I don't understand how so many people don't understand where federal grant money comes from. It's from your taxes, people! Wake up! Why should someone in Bangor, Maine for instance, be forced by the threat of jail to contribute to a water treatment plant in some town they've never heard of and will probably never visit? Please tell me how that is fair and just!
Charitable donations are great. Citizen on citizen theft enabled by the government is another thing entirely.
I could be wrong here but it seems to me that Calaveras County pursues government tax dollars and Tuolumne County gets very little. What's up with that ?
Maybe because Calaveras County knows how the system works and Tuolumne either doesn't or is just too lazy to make the effort.
Why can't Tuolumne sand the icy roads in the morning? Our tax dollars don't work for us at all.
It's hard to argue with the previous comments, but this article was really about the volunteer work that Ray and Helen have done. And rightfully, they have been honored. Ray and Helen are wonderful people who ALWAYS give of their time to help others.
I would say for this effort, they shouldn't have to pay a water bill for a few years....
Just my opinion.
