For all you nay sayers, this is yet another example of why we need the bypass, including the 3rd phase. There are far too many accidents and fatalities on this stretch of road. Count them up, this is one of the highest accident areas in Tuolumne County.

Hear hear jojo. All the forum trolls keep complaining about the bypass being a waste, when we average about a fatality a year on this road. I for one will be breathing a big sigh of relief once its all built.

Roads are dangerous in the hands of the public. The highway should be shut down and replaced with a government run trolley car system.....for our own protection.

Hey you guys, what makes you think a bypass would have prevented this accident? Paying attention, driving at a safe speed, leaving enough room between cars and not talking on cell phones will prevent accidents.
Did I mention SLOWING DOWN when black ice is present on the road?

sierrzd, just because long term commenters disagree with you does not make them trolls. The name calling is really inappropriate.

While I feel that the bypass will help with traffic issues, "better" roads don't help poor drivers improve their skills. It's sad that these things happen, and I'm sure that some are actually unavoidable, but the vast majority are. Road improvements don't mean driver improvements. Teach our drivers better, then huge highways wouldn't be as necessary in a area where high volume of traffic isn't usually a problem.

The bypass has nothing to do with accidents, it's all about drivers who think they can do whatever they want. Look at how many accidents are caused by people speeding in the rain and snow. It's not even young kids who are the cause to that, adults who have lead foots are as well. The bypass will do nothing but divert traffic into another direction, it gives people another road to take. There has always been accidents on this road and it will not stop, you think adding a bypass will lower accidents. Maybe if the police do what they should and stop the ones who drive in and out of traffic, weaving behind cars, going around unsafely..instead of people who are going 3 over the limit or have cracks in their windshield, we wouldn't have so many accidents.
