Except that it is not a tax, RMK, but rather time for all people to pay for health care according to what they can afford. Don't some of you weary of people telling you they don't need health insurance but somehow expect to be treated in the emergency room using some magic fund? This is exactly why Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital has had to lay off. The business model is just plain not sustainable when more people are taking services than those truly paying for them. Not unlike what is happening fiscally in this country.

The Democrats have helped and promoted illegal border jumpers. We have one of the highest crime rates in the country with these people and all to gain the votes of the 74% legal Hispanic's ( given amnesty in 1984 ) who don't care about Americas well being just the Mexicans well being. Anything to stay in power.
Now the 53% who work for a living will be forced to pay for these people.
Things are going to get real ugly in California.

I fail to understand why conservatives have a problem with the affordable care act. It requires people to take personal responsibility for their healthcare costs. The idea came from the Heritage Foundation ( not exactly a "liberal" organization), and Mittens successfully implemented it in Massachusetts. Aren't you guys all about personal responsibility? And what would you propose as an alternative?

WhoaMan, it would take too much room than is allowed here but how about using the national guard to round up all the illegal and gang bangers and ship them out permanently. The cost the 53% billions. Stop allowing hospitals charging $20 for an aspirin. Make harlots like Sandra Fluke pay here own birth control. Force the millions of minority drop outs into the military schools to get an education so they can find jobs. Actually use tobacco tax for smoking cessation as it was claimed for. Use local drunk driver fines for health clinics. Eliminate fraud at all levels with 10 years sentences of hard labor in a foreign country for violations. Force politicians onto the same program citizens are on for starters.

Crockett, you make a lot of points. Some of these ideas are good, I like the tobacco and Aspirin ones. The hospitals claim their costs are so high is because many people do not have health insurance. It seems there are few choices besides removing the need for insurance (Such as a single payer system), or require that everyone have insurance (Affordable Care Act). Or maybe the argument about healthcare comes down to whether you feel that access to healthcare should be a right given to all people, or a privilege for those who can afford it.
I don't understand the vitriol at Sandra Fluke. She wasn't asking for free birth control, just that her health insurance cover it.

Why shouldn't health insurance cover the cost of contraceptives in the same manor that they cover other prescription medications (including viagra) ? People pay for their insurance, it's not about wanting "free" anything, but not having to pay above and beyond. And employers pay for health insurance as part of an employee's compensation, so I don't see why they get a say either.
I can see that people of color make you uncomfortable. Rounding up a group of people due to their ethnicity sounds familiar...

I looked at your link, a website can have "news" in the web address but this does not make it a credible news organization. Same thing with Rush, O'Riley, and Hannity; these shows are infotainment and not a place to get your news. They exaggerate, and often twist the truth until it is unrecognizable. I'm all for sending them to the foreign hard labor prison you mentioned.

It's as simple as this....The Government has no right to FORCE people to buy something!
Why should I pay for illegals to have free everything? I don't care what ethnicity they are. It's not a racial thing.
Why should the Government FORCE any company to cover anything? When did it become a business' responsibility to even provide insurance?

Millions that don't have health insurance is because they aren't employable because they quit school. Their choice. Clinton and Democrats sent millions of the factory jobs to his friends in China and Mexico remember China Trade Bill and NAFTA ? What did you think would happen ?
If insurance pays Fluke's $3000 a year, we all pay in the end. She wasn't asking for free birth control ? Just that her insurance pay it not her.
I'm talking about crime, not color. I can see that identifying criminals by race makes you uncomfortable. My link was to CNS not to Rush, O'Riley, or Hannity.

Crocket never said anything about rounding people up based on ethnicity. He said "how about using the national guard to round up all the illegal and gang bangers and ship them out".
I can see you're comfortable with letting criminals run the streets and run up our hospital prices.

You guys crack me up! We must live in completely different worlds. In mine, NPR is an internationally respected news organization, and CNS "news" is not. Also, in my world, "rounding up" a group of people is ethically and morally egregious.
No one pays $3,000 a year for birth control. Her testimony is widely available on the Internet if you want to bother learning what she really said.

Many good points made here and at some level we are in agreement, if not violently so. It's easy to blame Hispanics and others for using the emergency room, however, as their primary health care. That is not the demographic, however, I see in Calaveras. I suspect the same hold true in Tuolomne. Rather, iit is those who choose to have children they cannot afford or not to better themselves educationally or with further training. Yes, it is a choice and why areas like ours are among the last to recover from hard times. Too many among us waiting for things to turn around instead of understanding we are indeed responsible for ourselves.

I couldn't care less about Fluke's unwillingness to pay $9 or $3000 for her own contraceptives when she spends over $50,000.00 on law school a year.

Wow Tuolumne County, I am at a loss for words regarding these comments. Healthcare reform is/was greatly needed. When employees of government agencies of different levels make so little money that they can't afford to go to the doctor even with health insurance there is a serious issue with all healthcare costs. As a former local level government employee my insurance premiums added up to almost $18,000 a year, which is incredible ridiculous especially since I rarely ever had to go to the doctor and did not even meet the deductible at all during my employment. Tell me how that is right? How is it right that $18,000 a year for 5 years is going for insurance for a family of 3 and there were only about $3000 in medical expenses in the same time frame? Really?

The Affordable Care Act is not entirely about offering free medical care and free insurance to people that don't deserve it or work for it, but it helps people that have the options for insurance to make it more AFFORDABLE.
And All these arguments about birth control costing $3000 a year is bull, I don't think it would cost that mush for 10 years, let alone just one.
Open your eyes and educate yourselves beyond public news sites and statistics. You can't rely on the internet and the media for anything.
