So our payroll taxes go up, and checks go down, so now PG&E feels the need to raise our rates another 4.6% due to inflation? Guess they just can't get enough money in there pockets! So who is next TUD, Propane, Trash? Any other utility company would like to squeeze blood out of a turnip? grrrrrrr
Food has also been going through the roof with deceptive marketing.Try and buy a half gallon of ice cream or pound of bacon and you'll notice the packageing has downsized with a little higher price. The ice cream is now 1.75 qt. and the bacon is a 12 oz. pack....Then turn your peanut butter over and notice the big indentation....Very sneaky ways of giving you less and charging more....
Mountain, don't forget the sale tax increase and that wonderful lumber tax....... oh and my trash bill with Burns refuge increased also !
The increase is due to a STATE requirement that they have a certain percent come from " renewable " energy. So you should really blame your state leg., and Mr. Brown for signing said piece of leg.
Basically PG&E is effectively being forced to buy more expensive energy, and has to pass on the cost.
Thank your state leg., and Mr. Brown for this one. PG&E is being forced to buy expensive " renewable " energy, and has to pass on the cost. This is a TAX.
It certainly sucks to have cost go up. But its not like PG&E is making a lot of money or anything. They typically break even or lose money.
But a lot of it has to do with living in California. As long as the state keeps voting to the left, which elects officials that want to create more regulations, raise taxes, and generally make the state more costly to live in, things are not going to change.
Get ready , alot more hidden things to come !
@ LAST WORD. as we grow older everything seems to shrink. i remember buying patato chips when I was a kid now the bag is full of air and companies tell you is because you were a kid and everithing seem bigger back then!! paychecks go down prices up, soon we are gonna be trading lavor for food.
Are you sure were not stuck paying for the years of neglect????
There's air in the potato chip bag to prevent the chips from getting crushed during shipment. It's part of the packaging to protect the product. Do you want less air and crushed chips? The electricity costs more because we have learned to factor in the environmental costs. Do you want cheaper electricity and a crushed Earth? Tough times? Ya - I feel them, too. Still pretty good, though. Maybe not like back in the day, when you could take as much as you wanted, because there was plenty to go around. What happened to those days? They disappeared along with the Frontier, Manifest Destiny, and a lot of species and ecosystems we'll never get back.
When I hear this about an increase for electric.....I thank God that we have solar panels on our house now. Our total for the year was around $25.00!! So there PGE!!!
This has to do with covering the fines and the impending lawsuits resulting from years and years of the negligence that led up to the San Bruno disaster and other things.
Don't kid yourself.
@RMK no I haven't forgotten and Patient5150 wish I could afford the solar. It is getting harder and harder to get to another payday as it is. I try to keep it healthy if food and still pay up the rear for it. I conserve on everything and can't afford to go out and enjoy life and now this. Can't wait to move out of Cali that is for sure.
Price are up on everything. If you dont like the price dont buy the goods/services. Electricity is a luxury not an inalienable right.
Get use to it, its called inflation. Its what happens when government starts printing money non-stop. The good news is most Americans are too stupid to understand or figure it out.
EVERYTHING is going to be priced higher...Team Obama! Yes!
Couple more San Bruno's and they'll have major issue's to pass on to us....More than being just being green...They know they need major funding to bring things up to date with the infrastructure....
From years of neglect....
Kinda like Chevron last Summer....
Yet they still come out ahead...
Don't you just love monopolies. So much for those pesky anti-trust laws. Remind me again why we bother with all this? How about a choice in electric providers?
Coiler I beleieve we tried a choice in electric providers a few years back and it didn't work out so well. Does anyone have a better recolection than I ?
Speaking of Burns Refuse Service rates. Does anybody else not understand why 3 companies in this county have a lock on the Refuse Business? The county is split up into 3 areas and these 3 companies are guaranteed a 10% profit and no one else can come into their areas and compete with them !!! I have never understood why this County doesn't allow competition in the garbage business??? Can anyone explain it to me please???
@RMK I haven't forgot and @Coiler I agree how about a choice in electric companies, water, hospital/medical, propane/gas ect. This is getting to be too much for many of us. @ Homebrewer you are right and it is a luxury but for some people need it for medical issues to survive. California is getting way to expensive to live with all the taxes being imposed on us and it is time that we all start writing letters to become a thorn in Brown's and others side. I know I have but I can't do this on my own. It takes more than just me and others to voice the hardship.
The California Public Utilities Commission is in bed with P.G.&E. They give them whatever rate increases they want. Bet there is some bribery going on there.
You guys all crack me up! Laws get passed because all of us stupid Californians think environmental "GO GREEN" sounds so go when it is on the ballot. And then when these companies have to charge more to abide by the new laws that we VOTE IN, then everybody throws a big fit and whines! You all act like this is a surprise, keep watching it is going to get A LOT worse in this state because these laws were voted in and these companies are now gearing up for it. If any of you paid attention when you voted (or did you even vote) you would have know this was coming! Again, the state is mandating these changes not because it's a conspiracy but because these changes were VOTED IN!!!!!
And your food is going to go through the roof because of the new environmental law that was VOTED IN that puts rediculous regulations on trucks in this state. The outrageous costs for retrofitting trucks and upgrades that were VOTED IN will be passed on at the grocery store! You better start saving up for that one too! But just remember it is not a conspiracy because the brilliant California voters VOTED that one in too!
Hey Wow, Can you enlighten us with the props your referring to that we voted in that created the need for the increases?
We currently have 150% of the snowpack needed and there is certanly no sign of a decrease in rates with the extra power producing capability or water supply.
Why is that?????
