@BigWaveRider .... Sorry to disagree with you, but this man (is charged with) going into someone's garage (which is part of their home) and stealing things. If he was both drunk and a thief, and he may have put other people's lives at risk while "driving" on the highway. At his age he should know better. I say charge him with home invasion, theft, DUI and reckless endangerment. Yeah I know, I'm a curmudgeon ... but I don't think what he did is funny at all.

Did they get the champagne back, or did he drink it all? Wait, I think I know the answer.

Boy a real criminal-want to bet he spends more time in jail than the guy who set Columbia on fire? The judicial system is so backwards. I say let him go-he told the truth-the folks get their golf cart back-this is harmless-I hope he enjoyed the 13 miles he made it-Sound like fun!!

Some how I fail to find the humor in breaking and entering, theft and driving intoxicated with the potential of causing greater harm and loss of life. Anyone who thinks he or she could drive a golf cart without suspicion from Angels to Citrus Heights is also in serious need of intervention.

Good thing this did not happen in Tuolumne County, the golf cart would have out run the ancient sheriff vehicles. Can't beat stupid in public.

Oh come on guys...The guy got drunk and lifted a golf cart. No way he's going to make it to Stockton on the charge. Maybe girlfriend problems. I think the golf cart owner should drop charges, the theif gets probation and he does lawn work for the golf guy for a year and buy back better champagne. He has to make amends..but no jail time. I hope the golf cart owner is repaid. about 45 years ago we stole an elephant in Thailand for a joy ride at his age..been in BIZ for over forty yrs and lots of employees..he made a mistake..chill out

Oh by the way..Drop the charges..give the kid a break..Start "Golf Carts for Cancer" he can be the leader..get sponsers to do the golf cart run..Sort of like the Harley Davidson toy run/"toys for tots" This kid could be a legend and an asset to his community for a dumb act..I can see it now.."Calaveras County golf cart races" from Angels to Copperoppolis"..world competition..Like the frog jump..and make them drive downhill; then you make them turn around and have to go from Copper to Angels Camp uphill...This would be fun..I don't know if they have on road golf world series..Guarantee the event would attract Euorpean tourist..Especially Swedish and Norweigans...

Sorry Kafir, but the mental image of a drunk dude riding a golf cart to Sacramento with 5 bottles of looted champagne is funny, and it overrides my sympathy for the victim I am sorry to say. Sometimes all you can do is laugh.

Hysterically funny!! Seeing humor in such ridiculous acts of stupidity are what keeps us sane! I think Hugh961 is on to something here! We certainly have plenty of golf courses around and instead of a ridiculous Amgen tour race, let's all have some fun and start an annual golf cart race!! $$$ could be raised for whatever needed causes and everyone could get in on the fun. Win-win!! Kind of like the lawn mower races in the mid west. Too much fun! Drop the charges on this guy. Now, I'm wondering if allowed, could a golf cart really have made it to Citrus Heights? Hmmmm......

I think he should do a day or so in jail...fine him what he can afford, but yes,,,,,community service of some kind. He was stupid, not really criminal...not criminal in how I would term it.

I think we all could use a small dose of 'sense of humor'. Especially the way things are going on virtually every level of our society : economy, values, crime, etc. You could work yourself into a depressing downward spiral and that's not helping anyone. I like the community service idea and restitution at least in this situation. NOT in the Columbia fire however, different deal.

Young men need a good stern kick in the pants from time to time. But don't come down on him so hard that you scar him for life. DUI + Grand Theft = Life on the fringe of society at best, and likely in and out of jail. How many of us have done something stupid while drunk? Ok, maybe not quite that stupid, but I sure did some dumb things when I was young.

For those of you who don't see the humor in this, have you ever laughed at a bank robber who left his ID behind? Same concept.
No one was hurt. The victim got his property back undamaged.
Since tourism is no longer out thing (no longer a charming little town, we're the city now), we could get cops to put this on TV to put Sonora back on the map? Just a thought. We do have some interesting criminals here.
