900 NEW LAWS!?! That's got to be a new record
ludicrous85   01/01/2013 11:45:47
Are all these Laws necessary!!!
DoubleD   01/01/2013 12:15:45
why stop at gay/lesbian contribution to american development? how about teaching our children how the legislators are destroying the American Constitution and their future slavery to the financial spending too!
md73   01/01/2013 12:52:42
They keep adding laws every year and most people have no idea what they are. My guess is a lot of people break the law every day and don't even know it. I have a solution for this problem. Jerry Brown signed nearly 900 bills into law, now he has to get rid of the same amount of old laws.

More madness from the state of California.

Lets begin with my strong support for sharks and opposition to shark finning. A good law.

Disturbed by the 4 months pregnancy leave law. Isn't that an excessive burden to put on an employer? It could make employers more likely to reject qualified women in favor of men.

What is caffeinated beer?

Not that I have anything against gays and lesbians, but why have a special class to tell kids that people who have same sex relationships accomplish stuff. We already know this.

The vaccination thing is a ridiculous, coercive measure which tramples on parental rights.

Now, which laws have they repealed?

What does a person's sexual orientation have to do with the contributions they made in helping develop the United States? Why do we need a law requiring this be known?
leaperman621   01/01/2013 23:01:38
Ahhh! The Nanny State.
whoknew?   01/02/2013 11:24:25
I would like to know if there is a law that makes it mandatory to require students to learn about the contributions of Black, White, American Indian, Latinos, Atheist, Catholics, Presbytarians, Hillbilly's, Okies, nudists or any other race, group,or individual to the development of the United States? Why just gays and lebians ??????? As a white, hillbily, presbytarian nudist i'm starting to feel a little opressed :-)

Tramples on parental rights? What about the rights of everyone else around you to not worry about getting PREVENTABLE diseases because you believe Jenny McCarthy instead of every reputable doctor on the planet when it comes to vaccines? Vaccination only truly works when the entire population gets it. Given the choice between exposure to whooping cough, polio, smallpox and the like and "parental rights" as you call them, I'm with the mandatory vaccinations.

All of you broken records, how many of you use social network sites, itunes, etc. etc., a cell phone?

Laws change all the time you just are too lazy to read it so you skip to the bottom. But an article like this, or one that makes a tax sound like a novelty, you all swoon, "well, I never! How dare they!"
cattle dog   01/02/2013 13:25:11
Students are required to learn about the contributions of gays and lesbians to the development of the United States. The mandatory class is the first of its kind in the nation.

Sorry, not for my 9 year old son and 8 year old daughter
wethehonestppl   01/02/2013 17:43:01
Nothing negative in here, unless you're homophobic. And that's YOUR problem.

It's the end of public schools for my offspring.

sierra, how is an unvaccinated child going to harm the vast majority who have been vaccinated? I see the point, but I stand by the comment that it is coercive. Many people are concerned that their kids are more likely to have ill effects from the vaccination that actually getting the disease.
I am one of those people who did contract a neurological condition from a vaccination when I was younger. If I get another one, it is likely to recur. It is only a matter of time before the flu shot is mandatory, and no matter what the "government" tells me, I will not get another one. Don't worry, if you are vaccinated, you and your children will be safe from my pathogens.
remington   01/03/2013 08:37:04
the mandatory class will not happen for my children. they can fail that class by not attending. no worries.
Bert   01/03/2013 10:12:47
I give up. Bust me if you must, but I simply cannot keep up with all the laws. All I can remember are the original 10, and those will get me by.
thrinnskaar   01/03/2013 10:38:27
Sorry sierrazd, I'm not for FORCING anyone do anything. See, I stand for freedom of choice.
steady   01/03/2013 11:04:11
The mandatory class won't happen for my children either. Many people have contributed to society, good and bad. What kind of sex acts they perform is none of my business nor my children's. Sex acts, perverted or otherwise, do not a culture make. What I do in my bedroom is nobody's business and isn't my identification card. Perhaps if I were abnormal or perverted and wanted really badly to justify my perversion and force people to think I was "okay", I would think differently.
Robm   01/03/2013 11:21:12
rider? Do you really not know the answer to your question? Unvaccinated people(kids) pose a risk to everyone. People who use such logic are dim wits at best. With Hundreds of new(er) more deadly diseases, viruses, and bacterial infections out there and doctors are still having to devote time to problems that should have been solved long ago. But no, parents don't want to vaccinate there kids, perfect place for breeding a newer more resistant virus or bacteria. Sorry but if your worried about side effects become more informed on the subject. I read as much info about every shot my daughter was to receive before she got it. I read about all the side affects, what signs to look for, how too prevent 95% of them. But to just be like the rest of sheep out there is just ignorant.
sierrazd   01/03/2013 11:41:08
A child who is not vaccinated because the parents simply chose not to is a danger. Some people are allergic to vaccines, its true. These people are protected by those around them who are not allergic getting vaccinated. When people choose to not vaccinate for a non medical reason (or because they listen to discredited quacks, bad science, and idiot celebrities), the number of unvaccinated people goes up, increasing the chance of an outbreak. This significantly endangers those who have legitimate, MEDICAL reasons for not getting vaccinated. You may say you stand for freedom of choice, but when your choice endangers all those around you, your freedom of choice can take a hike in my book.

steady great comment
umoveme   01/04/2013 10:02:55
Why is it necessary to bring up who a person has sex with to teach history?
At what age will said "teaching" begin? Will it be a whole curriculum of gay history? I have no issues with homosexuality, but why make it an issue?
What if I don't want to teach my son about sexuality as early as the school does? He already understands kindness, fairness.
mountainman   01/04/2013 10:57:54
.....and you trust the Gov. enough to know for fact what is in what ever they feel the need to inject into you?How many "Pro Choice",are for this???
REV   01/05/2013 16:01:45
As a homosexual midget, blinded in one eye, living with diabetes, struggling everyday as a balding man I am very disappointed the state of CA doesn’t not "specifically" call this out and identify my contributions to the state.

Kidding aside, should I now feel insulted when schools do not specifically identify heterosexuals and their contributions...

I'm really feeling left out now.

Moonbeam and CA have completely lost their marbels...
