Can anyone explain to me what pleasure they get out of killing a bear?

Do they add in the estimated number of poached bears?

Why do we kill bears? Do we eat the meat?

Yes, bear meat is edible and there are those that enjoy it. Hunting game is an American tradition. Using dogs to hunt game has gone on for hundreds of years. Does anyone else remember that they use dogs to hunt fox in England, and still do? That was at one time considered the sport of royalty. There is a season on bear that helps manage their numbers to prevent overpopulation. They have no natural enemies in the wild. They used to do the same for mountain lions, until it was decided they needed to be protected. They have no natural enemy either. Now as a result they are becoming overpopulated within our state. This is another result of the public's "feel good game management."

I have not hunted bear, but have heard it is very challenging, especially without dogs to track them. I know a number of people who use bear meat in recipes, which can be good if you know how to cook it. I'm not that good of a cook, so I don't hunt them. I don't know anyone who hunts them but doesn't eat them.

Bear meat is nasty but to each his own. I thought the ban on using dogs to hunt bears was going to drastically increase the bear poulation but it looks like that was wrong :)

Yes,bear is a lot like Pork, and it cracks me up that all the Bunny Hugger,"Green Types",are so against hunting...wild game is about as "Green",as ya get!!!Oh,yea, we need meat Protein too,for all the Weed Eaters.....
The quota will never be filled again....mark my word so we will have the onslaught of Bear problems....I cant hardly wait!!!!California as of right now has the highest population of Black Bears in the Nation....let the good times roll!!!!!!

whoknew?....clearly you dont....the Ban didnt start until the quota was filled ie.until that point people were still using dogs.....give it three years at most and get back to me on what the population has done.I bet you didnt know that Fish and game wanted to raise the quota from 1,700 bears to 2000 because more bears need to be removed??That number will never be taken without dogs......

carolr51 really? i harvested a beautiful healthy bear this year. i enjoy making jerkey out of it. i have already made a few batches and its great. do you take pleasure in a nice rib eye? enough said, some people go the market and pick out there meat that they pay someone else to kill. i love animals and respect the blessing we have in taking them for meat. i would love to see half these tree huggers go on a 5-10 mile hike in the high elevation, harvest a bear, quarter it up and pack it back through the rough terrain.. lol.. thanks mountainman for the comments, i agree. my comments dont always come out right like others seem to do but im not good at debating stupid.
