How do you prevent something like Newtown. Take away all the guns? All the sharp objects? How do you prevent an earthquake? A rockslide, or a hurricane? This kid was a nut case, nothing could have been done to stop him.
For starters Hollywood could stop making violent movies, Video games are a serious violent place where kids spend hours at a time. The government can't prevent something like this. Obama wants to take the weapons away from his people and this is just the ticket.

What happen in Connecticut makes you sick to your stomach. It was just not right what happen. But.....before we go on crusade to take away our right to bare arms remember this, are we going to take away knives, cars, gasoline, rope, baseball bats etc, all which used to commit murder. The gun or bullets can sit there all day and never hurt a soul. The gun had no motivation in this. It all comes down to the sick SOB that decides to carry something like this out. Here could of used a gallon of gas and torched the classroom off. If that where to happen are you going to ban buying gas at the gas station. Mental Health seems to be the problem here that needs to be delt with!!! People are murder everyday in this country and a firearm was not used. But when a gun is used it draw the most attention.

We are mourning with the country and these poor people. We hold children tight and love them extra, now. We must be extra careful with them.
Bless all of the precious little ones here, we are so grateful for all of their safety and health. Life is so very fragile.

And just HOW can government stop tragedies? How can tighter restrictions on guns stop bad guys from breaking laws? The only people gun laws effect are law abiding citizens. Mr prez, your blowing "feel good" smoke up everyone's backside again. It's all about your unconstitutional policies! And you know it!

No question this was a terrible tragedy. I find it interesting, however, that the same people who were unwilling to infringe on the 4th Amendment via the Patriot Act when 2,985 people were killed during the 911 attacks, are willing to infringe on the 2nd Amendment as a result of the 26 deaths in Connecticut.

The converse to that argument is that many who defended the Patriot Act are now fervently against additional gun controls.

Let's try to be consistent folks. I, for one, continue to support the Constitution. Taking away personal responsibility of those committing evil acts, placing the burden on laws only decent people will follow, will not reverse declining morals.

Even the mental health dr. on t.v say the sick people will find away to act out, yes guns make it easier . but some one determined to kill will find away !

the banks sat on the money invested overseas not here. DID he do any thing to fix that no BUT he will raise taxes or force health care ins. Why do you people always think President Obama wants your guns? He wants the guns that are used for war not your pistol. Do you really think your guns are going to be taken away? I don't think so. I won't give up mine and you won't give up yours. I believe we should arm the teachers. Not with assault weapons. Assault weapons are used for war. Less people would die or have a chance of getting away if the shooter has to pull the trigger one shot at a time. In the Newtown case the kids got mowed down again. Us gun owners can't possibly think this is ok? You people are more worried about your guns than the innocent small children who just died. Just say the word Obama and you are on the negative boat. People don't want to hear about your guns in the middle of a funeral. Shame on you.

Guns actually deter crime. To claim otherwise is to lie.

School faculty should all be trained and armed, and if they can't be trusted with a firearm, they shouldn't be trusted to care for our kids.

The only way to even come close to stopping this is to live in a dictatorship where life is cheap. I think not. This was terrible, but not preventable.

OF course there is not one person any where that would not give up every thing including life to stop a single child being hurt .

I think we are all flailing around here looking for answers, but there is no one magic cure that will solve this horrible situation we are in as a nation. We need to attack it on all fronts - keeping guns out of the hands of unstable people, treating mental illness better, making sure that security precautions are taken more seriously at public events, and so on. But mostly, WE NEED A SERIOUS CULTURAL CHANGE in this country, to de-emphasize the climate of violence that we get pumped at us all day long from the media, from movies, video games, even local news (sorry, MML), and start treating it as an abnormality, rather than a natural piece of everyday life. Everything starts in the mind, after all, and until we get this stuff out of our heads, these events will continue to happen.

In this world we need people who can give a positive effect to others. Every time I see tragedy I get this feeling that makes me want to become a better person. Makes me want to get in the best shape of my life and do good in the world. I guess i must have this inside me but certain things just make it come out.
I want to be a good man.
Yet....Obama makes me want to say...LIAR.

How dare he go to this memorial & start preaching about his so called "gun control" to families who are grieving. Just what they needed to hear. He who is surrounded by people with guns everywhere he goes. What he said there is unforgiveable. If I had been one of the parents of a lost child I would have gotten up & walked out. What was he trying to do start a riot. Just goes to show he has no compassion for what happened. Just looking for Americans to support his policies. Just one more thing to add to my list of what I think of him.

@leaperman621...If I have discerned your comment right, I believe your problem is that you see things from the viewpoint of a political party first, and from the viewpoint of a human being second, when you should be seeing things only from a human being perspective. You wouldn't be the only one on this site with this problem. Of course I could be way off base...?
