You know Ret Co Social Wkr, you're right a jail is a hard place to detox, but I can say (as a former addict myself), that detoxing period is hard regardless of your surroundings. The disease of addiction does not care about your surroundings, people in your life, or anything else. Its cunning, baffling, and powerful. I can garuntee (sp? sorry) that if she wasn't locked up she would be using. Most people cannot walk away from it, sometimes the best thing is to be locked up, cuz you have no choice but to face your addiction. The drug programs are great, but alot of addicts have a mantra they say when completing these programs, "Fake it till you make it". Meaning fake the sobriety and getting well until they complete and can go back to getting high. Sad but so true. At least she cant get high.
