Just what Tuolumne county needs is more debt. This is not a good thing.

Let's Go!!! Congratulations to our Summerville students!

None of you that voted "yes" get to complain about high taxes.
skidmoore   12/11/2012 20:47:19
Does this make anyone else somewhat skeptical of our system? It took a month to get the wrong results, and only two days to get a different more accurate count?
plus how do you add nine yes votes and one no vote and end up winning by 2 yes votes instead of 6?
Isn't nine votes minus three votes six votes?
ludicrous85   12/12/2012 08:29:27
It lost by two, now it won by two.....Hum.....
cop   12/12/2012 09:24:28
Skidmoore the number of votes changed the percentage slightly. so they needed 2607.55 or 2608 to win, making the margin 2 votes.
If I go to the bank to deposit $5000 in mixed bills and the teller counts out $4980 we will recount the money until we get the same number twice. When it comes down to 2 or 3 votes for 8 million dollars lets get the same number twice.

Does this make anyone else somewhat skeptical of our system? He** yes. It's all a sham

I'm glad for the kids but it's still a sham.
umoveme   12/12/2012 09:31:18
Gee, this isn't suspicious or anything.
Stormygirl209   12/12/2012 09:43:58
The person requesting the recount is on the board at Summerville High. So who really paid for the $800 a day recount?????? Maybe they threw in extra for those few extra votes.
sonoraman   12/12/2012 10:14:36
I find it sad and disappointing that the Tuolumne County Election official could not count properly and then to demand money for a recount with a known problem about the light pencil votes. This result hurts our confidence in The System.
It seems like the voter Barbara Kerr should be rewarded for being such a good citizen and staying involved in the democratic processes.
Maybe she can get a portion, 10% of the election staff paychecks for forcing them to do a proper recount. I imagine it was not easy to stand alone asking for a recount of the votes.
I nominate Barbara Kerr for the Tuolumne County Elections Job.

I am happy for the students, but don't trust Kieter on the spending of the money. Why can't he just donate some of his $200K+ a year salary. There is a waste of money.
JeepLover3241   12/12/2012 11:42:01
I am soo happy this re-count made the difference! The voters all passed the sonora high bond but it was such a close call for summerville... why?? Stormygirl- someone has to look out for our school. If Kerr hadn't demanded a re-count our students wouldn't get the improvements they need. And no one paid for the re-count because it was wrong. From my understanding if the results stayed the same she would have had to pay, but because the re-count changed the outcome then no one has to pay! THANK YOU BARBARA KERR for your loyalty to Summerville High! GO BEARS!!
leaperman621   12/12/2012 11:57:01
Quick! Hand out bonuses.
JRC   12/12/2012 12:27:04
Really?!!!! Two votes? This item needs to be reposted on another election! As a tax payer we need to have another election. For the potus as well.
Wally   12/12/2012 13:04:18
Barbara Kerr is not on the SUHS board. She is a member of the Summerville High Foundation. And she will now be reimbursed by the elections office because the outcome was different. It would only cost her if the outcome didn't change.
imjustsayin   12/12/2012 14:30:17
Just for the record Stormygirl, Barbra Kerr IS NOT on the Summerville High Board.
roosty   12/12/2012 14:51:02
So we borrow 8 million today. Don't make any payments until 2023, as it accrues interest each year. Assuming we get 3.5% for it, the balance will be $11,176,021 before we make our first payment. Then it going to take 15 years to pay off. By the time we are done paying for it we will have paid over 15 million. I sure hope the school isn't going to need anymore upgrades for the next 25 years because that is how long we will be in debt for. Great foresight all you community leaders.
Crockett   12/12/2012 15:42:54
If we had a legitimate recount on the presidential race, didn't count the double and triple votes, votes by illegals and the men and woman at war could of voted then Obama would have been sent back to Kenya.
o-no-bigguy   12/12/2012 17:10:30
Take that new money and combine it with Sonora bond, you could really build a new school on the wards ferry property, and liquidate both older school properties and probably have the new paided off.
MountainMedic   12/12/2012 17:12:54
I find it slightly suspicious that a School Board member contacts the elections tenders, who made numerous mistakes prior to the election, and they come up with just enough votes to further financially burden those who have worked hard to purchase a home. When the results of your lifes work are diminished by the desires of others to take a portion of it (read tax) that is a theft of your labor, also known at one time in our history as enslavement. I am not opposed to adequate funding of out schools. I just wish the Schools , Fire Departments, and Ambulances were adequately funded, and bond measures for political raises, welfare increases, and political boondoggles were put up for voter approval.
whoknew?   12/12/2012 17:46:48
Wouldn't it be nice if that 8 Million were going to go for a better education for the kids instead of being squandered by Summervilles Board of Directors for outrageous pay for staff :-)
applesauce-9   12/12/2012 18:13:41
There were two letters to the editor that were non Measure H thous two letters were from teachers that work at Summerville. Now even if one teacher that works there was against the bond then that should put that thought into one's head that something is wrong with this bond proposition and that maybe people should vote no on it. I herd that Keiter observed the "re-count" and that they only counted enough ballots to make the Measure pass. They did not count all of the ballots so would if there were more no votes? In my opinion this was fishy and this "re-count" needs to be researched. Thank you to Mr. Culver and Mr. Christiansen who made the reality at Summerville public. They obviously have a clue as to whats going on at that school. Seems like most don't.
iconoclast1   12/12/2012 18:16:07
Great...throw more money into government schools. Billions into CA schools and kids are still ignorant. Money is not the answer. It never was. In the seventies and eighties CA schools were second to none. Survey high school seniors and you will not find 10 percent who can tell you the three branches of our government. Government schools pump out morons with very little analytical thinking to their credit.
applesauce-9   12/12/2012 18:17:11
Oh and "Dr." Keiter that observed the re-count for two days got paid for it by the district. So he was paid to not be on campus and do nothing.
