How extremely unpleasant. It sounds like Jerry Brown's radio interview today was right on the mark.

Wow, Barlass is a real prize. The story makes it sound like people stood around and watched this guy beat the woman unconscious and not one of them came to her aid other than to perhaps call 911? Say it ain’t so.

Terrible. Hope she recovers quickly and her boyfriend is imprisoned until he learns to control his temper - especially when it involves women. Approximately 45% of murdered women in the US are killed by their husbands or lovers.

If I ruled the world then we would take people like that downtown to the park and let everyone and anyone who wanted to participate beat the living * out of him.
Of course in this liberal state and with the liberal judges of this town he will probably get a lil slap on the hand. Probation for one week or some bull like that.
Send him up to pelican bay on attempted murder see how he likes getting his head bashed into a door.....and other things.

The story say that he is a man.. I beg to differ. HE IS NOT A MAN!!!! Real men do not hit women. The person in the story is a poor excuse for the male species and needs to be taken out back behind the woodshed. I would imagine that there would be a lot of people back there waiting their turn to explain this to him too.

Hopefully this guy will remain in jail for about six or seven hours before being released on parole. Wouldn't that would be about twice the length as the average armed robber around here?

Why are we watching instead of rescuing? Nothing good can possibly come from actions like this. She will be scarred for life and he will be in jail for awhile and possibly do time. I think the minimum bail is $50K for this offense now. The he is looking at a civil suite too. He is 19 years old. How did he learn to be this mean at such a young age?
I was a victim of abuse in my first marriage. I can spot abuse a mile away and it disgust me that men and women alike treat each other in such a way. I didn't get married again till I was 45. I didn't realize men could be nice like my husband. In my mind all men were mean and I hated them. This young lady needs a lot of help now. Not only does her body need to heal but her mind also. My heart goes out to her for she probably loves him still.

"The victim, 22 year old Laura Mansfield, told the officers she had gone to the apartment to get a pair of socks from a woman there. Several witnesses saw Mansfield arguing with the woman and then being hit by her boyfriend, 19 year old Timothy Barlass of Sonora."
Having a little trouble here figuring out who's who (and it would seem some of the other posters as well). Mansfield was hit by HER boyfriend or the boyfriend of the woman who answered the door?
Over a pair of socks, the other day over a couple of pieces of frozen meat. Like something out of a post-Apocalypse movie.

I wonder what was hidden in the socks?

My sincere well wishes for the young victim survivor of this brutal attack, and I sincerely hope she prosecutes this crime. It sounds like she is very fortunate to be alive.
A month from now we will probably see a headline reading This weeks SPD Most Wanted Timothy Barlass please help find him.
Leaper, the rejects are homegrown locally by our community of alcoholic and drug abuser parents.
Look how the young woman at Columbia Elementary was treated after being a sexual victim of the Superintendents son.
Women are victimized regularly and their children are raised in a culture that allows verbal and mental abuse.
This dangerous man needs jail and to have no further contact with society.

I thought that any patient with a head injury was to be flown out since we don't have a neurosurgeon available. I guess it depends on each individual case. I just wish they had kept my husband up here with his head injury vs. flying him to DMC. They said he had to go since no neuro services are available in either county...reading this makes me nauseous to think that we could have avoided this whole years nightmare if we had insisted he go to SRMC first. Oh well, that ship has already sailed and DMC is no longer on our list of "good" hospitals...never again will we end up there now that I see they do keep head injury patients in town...quite a conundrum

@bookldy209 the argument occurred at the home of an unidentified woman and that woman's boyfriend, Timothy Barlass. Laura Mansfield went to the unidentified woman's house and while arguing with that woman, the unidentified woman's boyfriend came out and hit Laura Mansfield. We were hoping for a more clear report but that explains the information we have so far. The report did not say how Mansfield knew the unidentified woman or if she knew Timothy Barlass, it only mentioned she was there to talk to the unidentified woman about socks.

NOTHING.

Thanks, Sabrina. I'm sure most readers would also agree this is about more than socks. Sad times and prayers for Ms. Mansfied. The other woman should vacate, too, as a man who has no trouble hitting any woman will do so again.

You aren't trying to imply that this is the only area in the nation (or world for that matter) that things like this happen are you?
Every day it is the same thing on MML, the same group of people whining about how terrible this area is. What is keeping you people here if you're so unhappy with this community? Maybe you'd be happier in Modesto, fresno, or even the bay area since there is obviously no problems with meth, alchohol, or violence down the hill.

Domestic violence/child abuse is such an important issue in this county. Maybe we need more outreach awareness of the MWRC, and more/updated programs. I'd be interested to see some numbers. This is unacceptable and disgusting.
