Joe: "Why aren't we following the trend? My sense is that parents are satisfied with the schools here." Joe! This is an answer?!? The reason Charters schools are closing is that the their hippy parents moved back to the bay.

Interesting that you chose that picture to accompany the article. The "potential" new Gold Rush school never came to pass, although they got the County to change the zoning and blew $25,000 on design consultants before they figured out they couldn't t afford the price to make it into a school. The oversight by Summerville is minimal, Summerville only took the charter so they could bleed the charter school budget for their own gain. Some charter schools are great, others are massively mismanaged, and some exist to serve the religious goals of the administrators. Parents beware.

Hmmm.
When I read this..and 6,500 kids in the system..I had to wonder if the COUNTY was counting these charter schools?
Want to bet they WERE NOT?

Moderator: There are 6,500 between 5-18 according to the 2010 Census. Yes it includes ALL children and in the 2000 census there were over 8,000.
