A Coaching Change?

Of course they are going to fly the AD job, there is a "New Sheriff in town" with the new principal coming in. He should be able to pick his own team. Ms. Dwyer can apply and she may even get it. I don't see a problem.

As far as one person coaching three varsity sports back to back to back, the point was well made by the board that the head coach could miss as much as 7 weeks of preparation and practices because of the overlap. I think they have a valid point.

Very interesting article in the paper and it's about time that school made some changes. Starting with the Athletic Director. Summerville has had some talented kids in it's sports programs. That always helps to make your progam look good. But when the trough is half full then you have to be a coach. In football Summerville has a couple of coaches on the field that would do a great job as head coach. In Basketball Coach Watson rocks.
Baseball, wow that's a whole other can of worms!!!!

There is much more to this story than what is being told.

Why fix something that isn't broken? This is crazy considering that the school year is just days away and that practices for fall sports have already started. The students should be the main consideration by the mighty administration. Ms. Dwyer has earned respect from students, parents and most of her peers. She has demonstrated outstanding commitment over the years in her role as A.D. and does not deserve this disrespect. The superintendent told the Union Democrat that the new principal DID meet with Ms. Dwyer before opening the A.D. job, discrediting Ms. Dwyer's statement that they had never met publicly. It just goes to show that integrity is lacking on the part of the Summerville superintendent. He continues to publicly support his administration including reinventing the truth.

So here we go again! So many of us were looking forward to a new principle coming in and making a POSITIVE difference at Summerville. I guess that won't happen until we say goodbye to Mr. Keiter? Maybe Mr. Johnstone would like to hear what the parents of the students and the athletes themselves have to say about his choice to eliminate Kristy Dwyer as the Athletic Director. I thought the new principle was going to bring fairness and respect for others back into the school. I would not say that the way he handled posting the A.D. job was very respectful at all. Mr. Johnstone, if you are reading this, please know that we like Dwyer and that Ben Watson can handle his jobs just fine. Why change something that has been working for years? Want change? lets start with a new Superintendent

Kristy Dwyer has been a very visible and vocal opponent of this superintendent and his school sabotage shenanigans. Summerville will never, ever heal until he and all his minions are gone.

The only positive thing Summerville could experience is to get rid of Keiter. Like JohnDoe I was also looking forward to a new principle. I have met Mr. Johnstone and was impressed. The board should keep Keiter away from Mr. Johnstone and let him do his job. As far as that goes the board should keep Keiter away from every body. What a black eye for the school. Let Mr. Johnstone do his job. Bring safety, respect and fairness back to our school.

We were all looking forward to a new year and a new start, but all I see is the same problem with the same players. No matter what Dr. Keiter insinuated Mr. Johnstone did not speak with Ms Dwyer prior to informing her that she was no longer the AD. Ms Dwyer is a respected and extremely affective AD with no discipline issues. These are two of the most positive, respected educators at Summerville. If the Board is going to get involved in personnel they need to be fully informed. The support of Ms. Dwyer and Coach Watson was evident at the August board meeting. It appears that Mr. Johnstone is being led by others to make decisions they no longer have the authority to make. What a shame!

my post didn't post for some reason, I am very glad they're will be a change. A good athletic director can jump into any postition and knowes all about sports and can jump into a coaching position if needed. That did not happen last year for our track kids. It was a pure dissapointment they coached each other for nearly the whole season. A good athletic director would have steped in and coached. I am very excited for this change. I hope it happens soon. Good luck to the new athletic director hope it happens soon.

I have to agree. It's not the coaching staff fault...but the * administration with keiter. Don't try to play the game with us...
Cares   08/13/2012 12:42:35
SLH...you are so right! Mystified39....you more than likely had a child in track, and if there were issues I am truly sorry. BUT, the AD is responsible for more than coaching. The job entails scheduling, finance as well as any administrative issues. It is tough job handled by Ms, Dwyer with expertise, hard work and a true commitment to each child. Ms.Dwyer has handled this difficult responsibility standing up for the athletic programs at Summerville, and without always a smooth road to travel. The manner in which Ms. Dwyer was notified was cowardly and disrespectful! She deserved better! The support she received at the August 8th board meeting warmed my heart, and she knows she is respected by those to whom she is most committed. I wouldn't be too impressed with new just yet!
