This is nothing more than further incremental degradation of the Constitution by socialist liberals that want to appear to be tough on crime. The so called assault weapons they refer to are neutered versions of what the military uses. First, they are semi-auto not full auto. Second, in CA, they can only hold a 10 round magazine and you have to use a tool to remove the magazine. There has not been a single case of a CA modified AR15 used in a crime at anytime or anywhere so why is Mr. Yee trying to make felons out of law abiding gun owners ? To say that CA semi-auto rifles are similar to what was used in he CO shooting is a out and out lie. You would already be a CA double felon if you were caught with the same weapon and magazine that the shooter in CO used. STOP WITH THE LIES !

You can say guns don't kill people, people kill people all you like, but if the gunman in Colorado had a knife or even a crossbow, less people would have died. These weapons are not for hunting, they are designed to kill large numbers of people, and that's just what they do.

When ordinary people have access to assault weapons, they will be used to kill innocents.

Apparently Senator Yee doesn't understand the meaning of the word "infringed".

Gun control works because criminals follow all the rules right? Or how about this one? Gun control makes about as much sense as trying to lessen drunk driving problems by making it harder for sober people to buy cars

WorkingMom - So you really think that the government should be the only ones with weapons? This is a system of government that is to be by the people and for the people. We the people are the government and we should hold the power. The right to bear arms is for the people to protect themselves against the government and a deterrent to prevent oppressive actions from the government. People get fat and lazy and think that "it'll never happen here".
I own several "assault" type weapons such as the particular one being blamed. These are tools, pieces of machinery. Without these "tools" people would just revert to other means of killing multiple people. Don't blame the law abiding citizens or try to take away the rights of millions of law abiding citizens because of the actions of one.

The second amendment is not about hunting or sports but protection from criminals and a corrupt government. The founding fathers were great historians who studied civilizations from the beginning of time. They had just fought a gun confiscating and corrupt government for the freedom we enjoy today. Americas own security depends on the worlds strongest military as a DETERRENT. That is the most ignorant statement I've ever read! I've been a safe and law abiding gun owner and shooter my whole life and have never even considered shooting one person let alone try to "kill large numbers of people ". I don't even hunt. I enjoy target shooting. If that idiot in Colorado had it in his twisted mind he was going to do something as atrocious as he obviously had planned he would have obtained a firearm no matter what. GUNS ARE INANIMATE OBJECTS UNTIL ACTIVTED BY HUMAN! Therefore people kill people. End of story

I'll tell you -- ZERO. Not a single person has even been shot, let alone killed, by one of these guns.

Also, I am not sure you understand what an assault weapon is. Semi-automatic rifles are not assault weapons. The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle. Are you afraid of it because it looks scary? Is that a reasonable response?

Assault weapons, or fully automatic weapons, are used by the military and some police forces. It has been illegal for the general public to own these weapons since the 1930's.

Mcarden -- Switzerland has some of the lowest gun crime in the modern world. They also do not have a formal army, instead they require that every single citizen be trained in the use of a modern assault weapon and require the citizen to keep and own that weapon. The citizens take this very seriously and are often seen in public carrying their rifles with them.

To answer your question -- Yes, I think it would be amazing if my kids and grandkids grew up in a world where guns flowed freely and crime was almost non-existent as a result.

WorkingMom it is thinking just like yours that has infringed on my 2nd amendment rights. I'll bet that in your world we should next be looking to further regulate cars because they kill people also, never mind that it takes someone behind the wheel to actually operate the thing. Oh wait, I think that would apply to guns to. It takes someone behind it to make it operate.

And none of them has ever killed anyone. I do believe you DON'T know what your talking about.

He would not have used a knife or a crossbow. He wired his room with BOMBS. If he could not get a gun he would have used a bomb- imagine the death toll from that or a toxic gas. At least half of ordinary people in the US own guns that can fire 6 bullets. They don't go around shooting 6 people because they are decent humans, give your species some credit! The owners of the movie theater "Cinemark" are being sued in a wrongful death suite because they disarmed legal citizens and took there right to defend themselves. That theater was a gun free theater and had metal detectors with armed guards. So what good is your law now. when you take guns away from people this is what will happen. By the way unarmed liberals, the last revolution in this country was started over less then what is going on now.

How do you suppose you got to be able to post your views on this page without being jailed or executed? It was because of men and woman with guns giving of there lives to protect the freedoms that you seem to have forgotten about. Yes the militia that was set up by our founding fathers so tyranny whether home or beyond our borders could not expand. Also if just one person it that theater had a concealed weapons license that physco never would have killed as many people, I know one is to many but he would have been stopped before the carnage got worse. I to own many weapons including assault rifles and none are fully auto it against the law.

Out of all the other advanced societies in the world who allow gun ownership.....we are the only one's running around killing each other like idiots. The percentage of gun ownership in Canada, for example, is higher than ours, yet somehow they keep from killing each other. So, yeah, maybe the problem isn't the guns, but the problem is the people of America.
