The poll also found voters view Republicans more negatively than Democrats.
DUH! There are a lot more Democrats than Republicans in this state. I can speculate why, but that would incense some democrats...and we wouldn't want to do that, now would we?

Liberals want more control and fewer checks and balances? I'm stunned, or would be, except the origin of the poll isn't mentioned in the article.

I don't see how the numbers quoted in the article support the "One Party" headline. The survey seems to be about how people view their own party and the other party. I don't see anyone being asked whether they favor just one party controlling "Government" (which I presume means the two houses of Congress and the Presidency). On the other hand, why would anyone registered with one of the two main parties not be in favor of that?

This week, the GOP blocked, again, the Disclosure Act; their motive as clear as their hypocrisy. In spinning the reasons as "for the good of the people," millions will pour into elections w/o the People ever knowing whose fingerprints were on the death of democracy.
Both parties are knee-deep in corruption, paid for by corporations who hire lobbyists; who golf w/Senators, who attend $25,000.00 per plate fundraisers which, like a neighborhood potluck, influences the outcome. The Supremes became the Godfather of corporations in ruling on "Citizens United," better entitled "Corporations United."
Only transparency stops auctioning America off to the highest bidder; one party isn't the answer. Politicians don't want to run like NASCAR in suits w/logos on- it would show who's sponsoring them!

The RepubliCons have been nothing but obstructionists since taking control of the House. Their only concern is to ensure Obama is a one term president; the heck with addressing important issues such as jobs. No wonder they have such a high dissapproval rating. Vote the bums out in favor of folks who will do the job they are elected to do.

@ grey the source was a Field Poll (the article has been modified to include the information) http://field.com/fieldpollonline/subscribers/Rls2420.pdf
The "One Party" comes from the Field Poll Release #2420 (link above)
"Californians Continue To View The Performance Of Congress In A Very
Negative Light. Growing Support For One Party Control Of The Presidency And The Congress."

@mairalargo
What America has been witnessing is actually the death of our Representative Republic, which is being replaced by a neo-marxist democracy. Exactly what our founders feared would eventually happen.
And if you're going to rag on the GOP for being "secretive", than you also have to complain about Obama as well, seeing as how he claimed his administration would be transparent, yet it is the most secretive administration in our history.
@squirter
I should hope the Republicans are doing all they can to obstruct Obama's Marxist policies. Thank God someone is. Obama is bad for America. When his policies succeed, you and I lose, regardless of our party affiliations.

"The poll shows that view is exclusively among the state's Democratic and independents while Republicans favor keeping divided party control."
So the Dems want total control, but the Repubs are happy to share power. Not a surprise.

Why stop at a one party system? Why not a monarchy, or even a dictatorship? @hugh, I agree, otherwise people would recognize how closely a one party system resembles everything the exact thing we revolted against over 200 years ago.

ONE Party!!! And we all thought the two party system was bad! Who do they poll for these kinds of answers? A one party system sounds like the worst idea EVER! Perhaps they should ask more people than just the ones at the bingo hall in their next poll.

Democracy the individual,and any group of individuals composing any minority,have no protection against the unlimited power of the majority. It is a case of majority- over-man. Republic a constitutionally limited government of the representative type,created by a written constitution- adopted by the people and changeable( from its origanal meaning) by them only by its amendment- with it's power divided between three branches: executive,legislative, and judicial. Here the term "we the people" you decide what you want folks. Or is it socialist party your looking for. You all have the choice with your one vote you decide what you want remember the brown shirts not that long ago.

Do you want elected leaders to stand on principle or compromise? Do you want to see a one party system like russia had? like china has?
No ONE party system has EVER been fair.

We need a 4 or 5 party system actually. But the 2 (one) we have in power now will never allow it.
