Excellent Work! Sheriff Mele, What are you doing about sex offenders in Tuolumne County?
Bearbrat   04/06/2011 11:56:50
Thank you to our sheriffs dept for doing this. The two who didn't change their addresses are certainly out of compliance and they know this, it's a part of their parole agreement and they know better. I do hope the district attorneys office presses charges against them for violating this.

I know a quick way to rid our counties of having to monitor sex offenders...
heavencassidy   04/06/2011 13:21:23
I'm glad that they are keeping our children safe. However, I feel strongly about the faces that are portrayed on the Megan's Law Website, some of these people have never committed physical assault on a person. They are portrayed as monsters and in some cases they are people who made mistakes that they now have to live with the rest of their lives. And trust me getting your face taken off the website takes almost an act of God!Please keep this in mind before judging without knowing the facts behind particular cases! I am not ignorant to the fact that there are predators who prey on our precious children, I do not rely on a website to help me protect my 3 children. I always know where they are, if they are at friend's house, I know the parents well before they visit!
umoveme   04/06/2011 17:37:32
Heavencassidy, how do you know for a fact that all of the Megan's list people haven't committed physical assault? Were you present during the molestation? How can you say inappropriate relations with a child is just making a "mistake?" Sounds like you have some issues and you don't even realize it.
REV   04/06/2011 22:11:55
An act against a child is the most deplorable kind of crime. These people CANNOT be cured and will only mask their urges and temptations. No punishment is too severe for these monsters and anyone who makes excuses for them is just as guilty as they are, adults have choices, kids do not in these situations – I don’t support the death penalty in these cases, it lets these monsters off too easily, any crime against a child should be punished in a manner that sends a message to the other freaks looking to make a move on child.

Think long and hard before you start defending these creeps.
Bearbrat   04/06/2011 22:41:50
@heavencassidy, I do hope I can put this in a way that is not offensive to you, because there are some people on that website who did make mistakes, perhaps an 18 year old who had intercourse with a 16 or 17 year old. Those I don't agree should be on there. I did a search of the area of the county I live in and of the three I found, none matched this description. One was for rape, one was lewd acts with a child under 14 and one was annoy/molest children. Those people should be on there and I pray an act of God keeps them there. As for you keeping your three children safe and knowing where they are at all times, I commend you for that. I do have to note, that there is no way that you can possibly know 100% for sure what anyone is capable of.

How come a 19 year old can be placed on the Megan's Law website and forced to register as a sex offender (alongside violent rapists and pedophiles) if his 17 year old ex-girlfriend is bitter over a breakup and decides to say he coerced her into sex? That happened to someone I was acquainted with. He went to jail and the girl became pretty unpopular after that, as she should have been.

I know it's politically incorrect to say- but I personally believe Lawrence Taylor should not be on a sex offender database for not carding his hookers. The sad thing is even the President is willing to publicly say "Give Vick a chance" but I guarantee he won't do the same for Taylor.
woodlum   04/07/2011 07:47:19
I think Megan's law is a great place to start if you are concerned. Sure some of the people on there have never been violent but they sure as heck committed a sex crime in one way or another! I have always been a supporter of taking all civil rights away from molesters and to be honest I feel death is a reasonable penalty for harming children in such a manner. There is no excuse for this sort of behavior. Period!
calisdad   04/07/2011 08:25:09
Lock 'em up!

We can't however provide 100% care for the increasing percentage of our population that choose to be incarcerated. Why is again we can't have chain gangs working to make our roads a safer place?
Bert   04/07/2011 09:49:00
I too think punishment should be harsh, if not draconian, for certain offenses. I don't think we should have long term prison sentences whatsoever. If you are convicted of doing permanent harm to another person (non self defense) such as rape, murder, or molestation, you should pay the ultimate price. The remainder of offenses should be less than 10 years.

As far as people on Megan's Law, there should be some exemption if the age gap is small and the act was consentual. Not that I agree with underage sex (or unmarried, for that matter), but at some point we are legislating morality.
umoveme   04/07/2011 11:34:02
KCat, I challege you to find a person on Megan's list who is listed for committing stautory rape as an 18 year old for having consentual sex with a 17 year old.
heavencassidy   04/08/2011 13:23:25
umoveme....I have issues huh? "I know a quick way to rid our counties of having to monitor sex offenders..." hmmmm and I have issues. All I was trying to say is that there are people on the website that HAVE NOT committed any type of physical or sexual abuse....how do I know? Trust me I do!! Have a great day and don't go around judging people you have no clue about!
bookldy209   04/09/2011 14:39:07
Sorry, kcat, but I have a problem with anyone engaging women as hookers, no matter their (legal) age or willingness. It tells me a lot about how they view women in general.
badger   04/11/2011 08:02:39
This is a great information site, thanks to TCSO, and if you are not the site it was not for no reason they are sex offenders. Do not matters why they are on this listing other then they committed a crime. Guess what folks an 18 or 19 year old male has sex with his 16 or 17 year old girlfriend it is a crime plain and simple.
kidlady   04/12/2011 16:44:17
Sure, maybe there is a slight difference between a 18-19 year old man having sex with a 16-17 year old girl, and the other horrible stuff that goes on, but, it's still a crime. And, as with any crime, if you don't want to deal with the consequences, don't do the crime. Plain and simple.
And, really, kcat, an underaged "hooker" is just as much a victim as any underaged girl. You don't know what led them to that lifestyle to begin with.
