Tuolumne, Ca -- The Tuolumne Me-Wuk Land Transfer Act of 2007 has passed out of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources.

H.R. 3490, sponsored by Congressman George Radanovich, would transfer three parcels of Bureau of Land Management property into a trust for the tribe.

Kevin Day, spokesperson for the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, says the land would be used to house a Me-Wuk Cultural Center and an Emergency Services Building.

Day says there is also a cemetery located on the BLM property, and the transfer would allow the tribe to properly maintain the gravesites and update the monuments.

H.R. 3490 does not allow for gaming on the transferred lands. The bill now will go up for debate in the U.S. House of Representatives.
