U.S. Forest Service Set For Cross Country Ski Adventures

Sonora, CA -- The Forest Service´s Summit Ranger District will offer three guided cross-country ski or snowshoe tours in January and February.

According to Spokesperson Phyllis Ashmead, "The tours are geared toward families and individuals interested in getting exercise while learning about forest wildlife and winter safety. The tours are designed for both beginners and intermediate level winter enthusiasts."

Ashmead adds the tours will last approximately two hours and will be one to three miles in length.

The first tour is set for Sunday, January 18 with Irene Patton and Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol volunters. The second tour will feature wildlife biologist Adam Rich. It´s entitled Wildlife in Winter and is set for Saturday, January 24. The final tour, scheduled for Sunday, February 22, will again be led by Irene Patton and Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol volunteers.

Participants must provide their own equipment. The starting point for all three tours will be the Crabtree Trailhead in Pinecrest located just off Dodge Ridge Rd. The programs will get underway at 10am.
