Jamestown, CA -- While many Mother Lode residents are set to vacation during the Memorial Day weekend, the Highway Patrol will be out in full force in both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.

The C.H.P. labels this weekend the first  "Maximum Enforcement Period" of the warm weather months for 2010.

C.H.P. Officer and Spokesperson Mike Remmel was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

Specific attention will be paid to speeders, those suspected of driving under the influence and those who are not wearing seatbelts.

Remmel says the "black and whites" will be on the lookout for any type of two-wheeler, four wheeler and even eighteen wheeler, erratic driving.

The final word from the C.H.P. ... drive safe and buckle up!

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:46, 7:46 and 8:46am
