Trio Hoping To Replace Downum

San Andreas, CA - Since Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum has decided to not seek re-election, the candidate filing deadline has been extended until Wednesday.
The Calaveras County Elections Office reports that Gary Kuntz is the only candidate that is already qualified for the ballot. However, Eddie Ballard and Patrick D. Garrahan have taken out nomination petitions indicating that they plan to seek the position.
The filing deadline was Friday for races in which the incumbent is seeking re-election.
In Tuolumne County, the Sheriff's race will consist of two candidates. Incumbent Jim Mele has qualified for the ballot, as well as challenger Tom Memmer.
