Sonora, CA -- Former Tuolumne County Superior Court Judge James Rowan Hardin has passed away at the age of 86.

Hardin spent 12 years as Superior Court Judge, first being elected in 1980.

Prior to the position, Hardin practiced law and often represented the county on legal matters. He was the winning attorney in a 1960's lawsuit that attempted to redraw the boundaries between Tuolumne and Alpine Counties.

Judge Hardin passed away at his home in Sonora on Saturday, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice, and numerous children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending.
