Angels Camp, CA - The Angels Camp Police Department is reminding parents to encourage their children to be aware of surroundings and not accept rides from people that are not familiar.

Police Chief Dale Mendenhall was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day"

Mendenhall says a 16 year old female was walking home from school late last week near the intersection of N. Main St. and Dogtown Road when she was approached by a suspicious male in a pickup truck.

The man reportedly asked to give her a ride and she declined. He asked a second time and she ran away. At this point the man in the truck drove away. The juvenile female described the man as a white male, twenties, a shaved head and wearing a black t-shirt and sunglasses.

Mendenhall says if a child is in a public place where there is easy access, he encourages them to enter the closest business and ask the proprietor to dial 911.

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
