Burglaries Down; Assault Cases Up

San Andreas, CA - The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department has released the final crime statistics for 2009.

The number of burglaries reported in 2009 was down 17 percent from the year prior, as 248 burglaries were investigated in 2009 compared to 298 in 2008. In 2009 there was one homicide, while there were not any in 2008. The number of rape cases in the county doubled from seven in 2008 to 14 in 2009. Robbery cases remained even at 14. Assaults increased from 591 in 2008 to 641 in 2009.

The overall number of cases decreased, as 1,267 offenses were reported in 2009 compared to 1,273 in 2008.
