Tuolumne County Hit With Two Residential Fires

Sonora, CA -- In addition to all the vehicle/big rig accidents Tuesday there were also a couple of residential fires in Tuolumne County.

According to CAL Fire Communications Operator Jim DeVoll the Emergency Command Center received a report at 7:24am of a small garage fire at 21534 American River Drive. One CAL Fire battalion chief, one CAL Fire engine, one Tuolumne County fire prevention officer, three Tuolumne County Fire Department engines and one Tuolumne County Fire Department water tender responded.

Cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction. Damage was estimated at $5,000.

The second fire was reported at 2:15pm at 11096 McKibbin Drive. One CAL Fire battalion chief, three CAL Fire engines, one Tuolumne County Fire Department engine, one Tuolumne County Fire Department water tender, one Tuolumne County Fire Department breathing support unit and one Sonora City engine responded.

Cause of the fire which damaged a carport and extended into the residence; fireplace ashes left too close to the exterior wall of the residence. Damage was estimated at $100,000.

One minor injury (singed hair and minor first degree burns) was reported to a resident. The fire was controlled at 5:47pm.
