Columbia, CA — The Central Valley Independent Network crew working in Columbia near the 49er Church has cut into a main water water line.

T.U.D. Spokesperson Lisa Westbrook says the main water line was hit at 10:15AM. Traffic on Parrotts Ferry at Yankee Hill Road/Jackson will be restricted to one lane as they repair the pipe.

Caution should be used in the area, both sides of Parrotts Ferry from the 49er Church at Green Street to State Street have rushing water. Rocks and debris were swept into the road, crews continue to clean it away. The City Hotel parking lot and other areas have large puddles and are very swampy. A map of the area is here.

Westbrook says the area will be with out water for approximately 3 hours.

Crews on scene say that it was an unmarked pipe, further details and the investigation is ongoing. The crew pointed out marks for a water pipe that were several feet away from where the crew was digging. The construction is to lay infrastructure for the CVIN broadband project.
