CAL Fire Moves Into Winter Preparedness
San Andreas, CA -- Effective Monday at 8am, the CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will transition into winter preparedness mode.
Burning will be allowed 24 hours a day, but only on "permissive burn days" as deemed by the Air Pollution Control District. Residents will not need a burn permit again until around May 1st.
TCU Unit Chief Mike Noonan says, "Now is the time to work on the 100 foot defensible space around your home. Defensible space helps to protect your property, your neighbor's property and your community."
CAL Fire will start releasing some seasonal firefighters, reduce staffing on engines and close some remote wildland stations.
