C.S.U. Continues To Thrive In Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA -- The 68 member strong Community Service Unit (C.S.U.) continues to thrive and serve the Tuolumne County community as an outreach of the Sheriff's Office.
CSU Executive Director, Dave Clevenger, was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".
Volunteer members have saved the Sheriff's Office thousands of hours and millions of dollars in working crime scenes, serving subpoenas, directing traffic, fingerprinting and dealing with public input at the five offices in Sonora, Twain Harte, Jamestown, Tuolumne and Groveland.
Dave Clevenger is the C.S.U. Executive Director. "Over our 16 years our volunteers have put in 250,000 hours of work. On an average deputy's salary the value of that time computes to approximately $5,386,000.
We're always looking for volunteers. The only qualification is that a volunteer commits to a minimum of eight hours a month. Anybody interested can pick up an application at any of our five offices."
From Sheriff Jim Mele, "They save us an incredible amount of time and money. Their service to the community allows us to place our deputies in the key areas where they need to be working such as patrol and investigations. I can't say enough good things about the C.S.U. volunteers."
