Local Fire Chief Resigns

Sponsored by:

Mi-Wuk Village, CA — Amid an investigation, the Mi-Wuk Village-Sugar Pine District Fire Chief calls it quits. Randy Miller had been on paid administrative leave since early April. At the beginning of May, the Governing Board of Directors extended that leave until May 20th while a complaint was being investigated.

Last Tuesday, Miller submitted his letter of resignation at the Board’s meeting. Acting Chief Larry Crabtree says, “It was effective last Friday so he is no longer working for the District. The only reason he gave for leaving was personal reasons.”

Crabtree would not talk about the investigation citing confidentiality laws. He does say the investigation is still on going. However, Crabtree stresses, “Nothing that I’ve heard from any source indicates that there was any sort of criminal activity. I have absolutely no reason to believe that there will be any criminal charges.”

Miller had been the Fire Chief for over five years. He oversaw a staff of nine including five interns. The Board held a special meeting this week to deal with finding a replacement. Crabtree says that could take until August or September.
