Calaveras Fair And Farmers Markets

The Calaveras Fair is in full swing, the Paddle to the Sea adventure begins and several local cities are hosting markets with food and more.

The slogan for the 2013 Calaveras Fair is “Country Roots and Cowboy Boots.” Area Youth will be showing their animals including: 171 pigs, 124 goats, 122 rabbits, 80 sheep, 52 chickens, 36 cattle and 75 other animals (turkeys, dogs, llamas and cavies or guinea pigs).

The gates open at 8:00am Saturday and 7:00am on Sunday. The Carnival rides open at noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Motocross bikes will jump during their performance starting at 7:00pm on Friday. At 8:00am on Saturday kids can participate in the Western Horse Competition with arena games including; a sack race, tin can drop, and obstacle course. Sunday the Junior Livestock Auction begins at 9:00am and the Antique tractor pulls begin at noon. The frog Jump finals, for the top 50 jumpers, begin at 3:00pm on Sunday. The Destruction Derby begins at 5:30pm.

Other fair entertainment includes: a variety of local and regional bands, juggling and variety acts, arm wrestling, pie eating and baking contests, Calaveras Idol and the Tug of War competition. Kids 12 and under are free today only, event prices vary by day, other information can be found at www.frogtown.org
